Deathgate

A Deathgate is a magical weapon in the fantasy series The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan.

A Deathgate is a weave of the One Power using Spirit, Earth, and Fire that opens and closes Gateways very rapidly in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. It is a weave used by Lews Therin in Knife of Dreams when he seizes control of Rand al'Thor and channels through him.

The Gateway works in two ways. The edges of Gateways are extremely sharp they cut through whatever they strike. However any Shadowspawn that fall through these Deathgates die because they are constructs, and cannot survive such a trip.

Along with Fire Blossoms, Deathgates are a newly rediscovered type of combat weave used by the Asha'man in Knife of Dreams when thousands of trollocs attack them and Rand while he is in Lord Algarins manor, waiting for news of his envoy to the Seanchan.
