Deathball

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Deathball is a mod for Unreal Tournament 2004 developed and maintained by Team Vortex. First created in October 2002, it consists of a heavily modified variant of Bombing Run, and is described as a "First Person Sports Game". Though it currently exists as a mod, there are future plans for a standalone version.

[edit] Gameplay

The game is meant to feel like football (soccer), handball, rugby, and hockey. The central objective is to launch a ball into the enemy goal in order to score points for one's team.

The setting is a science fiction scenario, and it does not attempt to be realistic. For example, players can kick each other around with huge guns and in some cases kill each other, which results in the killed player respawning at his own penalty box (where the team's goal is). The gun can also be used to carry and shoot the ball in different ways.

The primary difference between Deathball and most other sport games is that the player is playing from a first person perspective, and only one player is controlled. The other players on teams may be either controlled by other humans or by an AI. There are normally 5 players on each team, though is is also possible to put anywhere from one to eight players on a team.

[edit] Design team

David Münnich is the head of the Deathball project, along with various other artists and programmers. It is all done for free, and so the nature of the team is less permanent than other paid teams.

David is also the lead designer of Notpron.
