[edit] Gerry
Gerry was released in 2002 and starred Matt Damon and Casey Affleck. The film is about two friends, both of whom are named Gerry, who go on a nature walk to a "big thing".
When they get bored and decide to go home, they realise that they are lost. They spend several days walking through the desert without food nor water. After both collapsing from dehydration and hunger, one dispassionately strangles the other to death.
[edit] Elephant
Elephant was released a year later, and starred Alex Frost and Eric Deulen. The film is about an "ordinary" school day, and the majority of the film both introduces and follows several secondary characters.
The film's dream-like state is later shattered when two disgruntled students arrive at the school heavily armed with firearms and explosives. The film then continues for 10 minutes as the students roam the hallways of the school, killing several of the characters.
[edit] Last Days
Last Days was released in 2005 and starred Michael Pitt as Blake, a suicidal musician. The film follows Blake through his everyday life, in which he carries a firearm around for no apparent reason, goes to a club, and walks around in the bush near his home, which he shares with the other members of his band.
He appears to be indifferent to the rest of his band, and doesn't spend as much time with them as they do each other. The film ends with him supposedly killing himself, and his bandmembers deserting him for fear of implication.
