Dean Hughes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Autobiography- Dean grew up in Ogden, Utah. in very humble circumstances. He lived in a trailer home that is smaller than most living rooms. As a boy he loved to play outdoors and get dirty, but he also had an appreciation for beauty and creation, which was expressed through his embroidering that he did with his mother. He got married when he was twenty-three to Kathy Hurste Hughes and later had three children with her named Tom, Rob and Amy. He was able to attend Weber State University where he gained an education English, leading to his completion of a Masters in creative writing and a PhD in literature from the Washington State. Before he became a full time writer, he taught English at Central Missouri State University.
Works- When Dean reached the age of 36, his first book was published. He has continued to publish over eighty books in his lifetime. Although he gained a PhD and Masters, he spent, and still spends, much of his time writing for children and young adults. Not only does he direct his work towards the young, but writes fictions novels. He claims that although he writes fiction, he still considers himself to be a practical, sensitive and deep thinking man. He is still very structured, even though he is his own boss. He commented in a biography that he spends all day in front of a computer. Although it is tiring, he says that he enjoys it so much because he makes his own schedule and gets to create all day long. He always lays out a plan that he follows for his writing and studies his storylines and characters. He tends to get his ideas from everyday life. He never really needs to search for them because he is constantly searching for them. He starts most of his works with just the characters. Once he develops that character, he designs the rest of the story to follow.
