[edit] Rename or keep current name?
I came to this category while working on Category:Underpopulated categories. I've noticed that there is some confusion as to the appropriate name of this category due to the proposed merger of Throat cancer wtih Head and neck cancer, however for the time being, the current name appears to be sufficient. I'm wondering if the name should be changed to something like Category:Deaths from head and neck cancer. —Viriditas | Talk 08:31, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- Throat cancer is an imprecise name. Head and neck cancer, in contrast, incorporates squamous cell carcinomas from the nasopharynx down to the larynx (a much larger area) but is probably easier to verify. On the whole, these categories are immensely cluttersome and have huge verifiability and notability issues. JFW | T@lk 07:12, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
- User:CharlesBarker created the categories for Deaths by cancer, but that was redirected to Cancer by User:Jdcooper. [1] Should the categories be merged into lists? (see Lists of people by cause of death) I'm guessing here, but it looks like CharlesBarker created subcategories to sort Category:Cancer deaths. What should be done with that cat? Instead, we can convert the current cats to lists, and populate Category:Death-related lists. But that would disrupt Category:Deaths by cause. Any ideas are appreciated. —Viriditas | Talk 13:32, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Lists would be slightly better, but would still suffer from verifiability issues. I remain quite firmly opposed to using the category system to classify something that is likely to be unnotable (many famous people cease being famous before they die, and their cause of death is not in itself notable).
