De Soto School District

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The De Soto School District is a Johnson County, Kansas school district. Although named after the small town of De Soto, Kansas, the district covers a very large portion of northern and western Johnson County in the towns of Shawnee, Lenexa, De Soto, and Olathe. Most of the students live in the eastern side (Shawnee and Lenexa).

The school district currently has two high schools (Mill Valley High School in the east and De Soto High School in the west). Mill Valley is the larger of the two and is located in Shawnee, off the western end of Shawnee Mission Parkway. De Soto High School is the smaller of the two located off of K-10 and Lexington Avenue. The district also has three middle schools (Monticello Trails, Lexington Trails, and Mill Creek Middle School which will be opening Fall 2007). The district has five elementary schools (Starside, Clear Creek, Mize, Prairie Ridge, Riverview elementary and a sixth one is scheduled to open fall 2007 in Shawnee near 71st and Chouteau). The district also plans to build a new high school for the rapidly growing Lenexa neighborhoods to accompany the new middle school.
