[edit] Absorbing man

I just wanted to say good job on the image. Dont know where you found it but that might be a good place to stay. Lets see if Asgardian has a reason to get rid of it. Thefro552 13:27, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Recent image up loads

Hello,

Noticed a few things about a chunk of the images you recently uploaded that may be problematic.

  1. Citations in the summary area. Generally this should include the comic or related material that the image was scanned from. Just citing a web site, especially one that does not include this information, makes the image suspect.
  2. There is a preference for non-manipulated images. This includes whiting out areas. (Cropping is a different matter.)
  3. Image size. Since most placements are less than 300px across, there was a discussion and rough consensus by the project that the images should not be any larger than 300px across. Exceptions to this are cases where there is text in the scan that should be legible. This is also a concern regarding fair use issues related to copyrighted images.

If possible, could you address these issues on the material you've up loaded?

Thanks for listening... — J Greb 23:50, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

I shall see what I can do. Though, most images I've uploaded lacks information.

DCincarnate

That may be the biggest rub. Being able to properly source the images is the most important thing of the three concerns. — J Greb 00:55, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Also, I've noticed that you are uploading way too many images onto an article. Michael Myers has like 15 images. Wikipedia cannot justify "fair-use" for that many images. There are 3 images for Tommy Jarvis, for a page that's barely able to justify 2 images. The same for Jason. Images are meant to illustrate something better, not to glamor up the page. We don't need an image of these characters for every single time they stepped onto the silver screen.  BIGNOLE   (Question?)  (What I do)  11:59, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

How about now? user:DCincarnate

There are 18 in MM right now, so if you removed any that means you had more than 18 originally. I can't think of any Featured Article that has that many images. Images should only reflect what's important. For fictional characters, there shouldn't be too many "in-universe" images, as the article shouldn't be written that way anyway (which MM is written in, it's like a biography, which it shouldn't be). There should be behind-the-scenes images on the page, that should be with behind-the-scenes text (which it doesn't have). Pop culture images with pop culture text, and so forth and so on. At best none of these articles should have more than 10 images period, and even ten should be reserved for the long articles, and the majority of them shouldn't just screen captures. There are only 3 fictionaly film characters that have reached FA status, and they are all from Star Wars: Jabba the Hutt, Padme Amidala, and Palpatine. Look at those pages for a good reference on how to not only use images properly, but what type of text we need to go with those images.  BIGNOLE   (Question?)  (What I do)  12:40, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
I've removed several of the images. It shouldn't be about eye candy, the images need to have a purpose. I think that the ones I removed would probably better serve themselves on the respective films they are taken from. Images of Jamie aren't that relevant to the MM page, and a confrontation with Dr. Loomis happens just about every film.  BIGNOLE   (Question?)  (What I do)  21:02, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Images in Martian Manhunter article

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Wikipedia has a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Using different styles throughout the encyclopedia, as you did to Martian Manhunter, makes it harder to read. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Play nice!

Please stop, other Editors aside from myself have been reverting your image changes, blowing them up the way you have unbalances the articles that you have edited. I've tried to take your actions in good faith, but since you have been warned on more than one occasion they are now being considered prolonged vandalism. --Basique 03:01, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

I haven't seen anyone revert my edits at the Martian Manhunter. And you are making a big deal out of this, due to your obsession of having every image exactly 175px. It's not a rule, just a recommend size. Every other image in articles have over 175px size. It's enough that you have started accusing me for reverting other's edits. --DCincarnate

I use 175px because its a size i'm comfortable with, that doesn't mean you have to. But overbalancing the infobox image by blowing images in the article body up to 230px and 300px, which is what you have been doing, consistently over many articles. And all these changes have been uncommented, All I have to go is backtrack your contribution history for the past three days and the evidence is there. No one can stop you from making these changes, but they can revert them and they have been. And when you resize, move or delete an image, please put in a comment to that effect. --Basique 17:17, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Cable 400.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Cable 400.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 18:05, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Beta Ray Bill image

Regarding your edit: yeah, it's not an image of Thor, but it is the cover to an issue of Thor. Please note that that particular section of the article isn't really about Thor, the character, it's about Thor's publication history -- and that particular image illustrates that section of the article pretty well; it's not just a random image, it's Walter Simonson's first issue of The Mighty Thor, and it's placed right next to the section that discusses Walter Simonson's critically acclaimed run on the series. You're correct that it's a great image to use in the Beta Ray Bill article, but that's neither here nor there; it's not at all uncommon to use the same image in different articles in Wikipedia.

Accordingly, I'm restoring the picture. (I'm not trying to be difficult here; if you really want to get rid of it, hey, go ahead and remove it again -- I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I just honestly believe that it's a good picture in the context of the actual text next to it, and I get the feeling that you didn't really look at it that way.) -- Captain Disdain 17:26, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

I watch the Thor page, and agree, it's relevant and does a great job of illustrating that section. ThuranX 04:07, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
