Day of Contempt

Day of Contempt were a metalcore band formed around 1998, they were originally part of the Adelaide, South Australia underground hardcore scene, in mid 2004 they set up in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.
In Australia they have toured with or supported international bands including, AFI, Unwritten Law, Strung Out, the Mad Caddies, H20, One King Down, Throwdown, Ensign and Australian bands 28 Days, Frenzal Rhomb, Take The Crown, Superheist and played at Adelaide's Big Day Out.

[edit] Line up changes
The band replaced bass player Brett Eitzen with Dan Smith. Dan became the melodic backup vocals for Ben Coyte's main growl. A couple of years after the release of 'See Through The Lies' the band went through some considerable changes. The first, Josh Delsar and Vince Jukic were replaced by Simon O'Gorman (Guitar) and Joel Bourne (Drums). The second change saw them move to Orange County, California. They moved to access a greater potential of audience, after much touring in Australia. After the move they did a large amount of scheduled touring with the likes of Good Charlotte, Underoath, Alexisonfire, Bleeding Through and Avenged Sevenfold.
It was during this time that they had two more changes. Tom Deverix left the band for personal reasons, and they changed their image. The band dropped the simple metal look, of jeans and a tshirt, and went with eyeliner and hairstyles. They had also signed with Epitaph Records and released an EP called "The Will To Live". The EP showed a difference in music, from their previous records. They had dropped the heavy metal sound and produced something that would be more post hardcore.
[edit] Break-up
Ben Coyte, the last remaining founder of Day Of Contempt, left the band due to personal reasons. The remainder of the band changed their name to The dear & departed and Darren Parkinson and David Willams joined shortly after. The Day Of Contempt website has been redirected to the new Dear & Departed website which has been temporary for over six months now.
