[edit] History

Day-Timers began when Warren Dorney, a local entrepreneur, bought a single printing press and placed it in an old chicken coup. He purchased the press with the intent to print labels for his own business. His three sons were facinated and began printing church bulletins, raffle tickets, and other small orders. Soon they had turned a profit.

In 1940 Robert and William Dorney began a mail-order birthday calendar printing service. In 1942 the Dorney Printing Company was registered. In 1948 the first building dedicated solely to printing was erected in the Dorneys' backyard. This building is still attached to the corporate headquarters of Day-Timers, Inc.

Meanwhile, Mr. Morris Perkin, an Allentown area attorney, was developing his own appointment tracking system. When his system was complete it consisted of a diary, appointment planner, and a reminder system. He called it Lawyer's Day and by 1952 he had approached the Dorneys for a printing contract.
