[edit] Name of Dawson City

Dawson City's official name is, oddly enough, the "Town of the City of Dawson", as it is incorporated as a town. That's what it says on the sign when you enter the town. See [1] for the history, [2] for legislation referring to the town, and a CBC news story [3] which all use "the Town of the City of Dawson"

I think it originally was incorporated as a city and got downgraded; other instances of this happened to various boomtowns in BC (those that weren't company towns, that is, which didn't have governments). A famous example that didn't is Greenwood, near Rock Creek, which retains its city status despite having a population less than 500-1000 today.Skookum1 07:18, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "List of Notable Dawsonites" section

OK, other than the famous names like Diamond Tooth Gertie and Skookum Jim and Robert Service so on, but there are others who either set up shop in the place, and those raised there, that are of importance. The big city pages all have "famous people from XXXX" - why not Dawson's?Skookum1 07:18, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] First Nations section needed

....Just because I've been working on Indigenous Peoples of North America WikiProject and happened to have just compiled a list of Yukon, Denendeh/NWT and Nunavut band/national governments. There should be at least some FN content on the main Dawson page, you'd think (equal time for the crazy prospector/miner element, too, though...)Skookum1 07:21, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Missing?

The casino and the music festival should probably be mentioned, no? -- TheMightyQuill 07:49, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
