Width
I managed to get your userpage to work when viewed in Firefox. I'm unsure how the others work, though. Daniel.Bryant 11:15, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- I reverted my edits, cos I'm not 100% sure how they'll work. See here. By the way, lets continue this conversation here - I've watched the page. Daniel.Bryant 11:18, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- This works on FireFox under OS X, and Camino - that's a damn good start. If you could test this under IE (I only have version 5.5 for the Mac, which is... less than ideal), that'd be a bonus. Safari and other WebKit browsers still render this page poorly (aside from displaying too-large bars when sections are hidden on the page, the left table doesn't maintain a proper width), but that's fine: I'll make an alternate page for them. Thanks very, very much for your help! RandyWang (chat me up/fix me up) 11:39, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- IE 6.0 doesn't like it :( - maybe just add it to the list of browsers which should view the alternative templates. Daniel.Bryant 07:48, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I've updated it again, and I think I've fixed the problem. Aside from reducing the "busy-ness" of the page, I've inlined the text that was presented with the two barnstars - this should mean that the page will appear nicely up to resolutions of around 1280x1024 (the highest I have here is a dual 1024x768 setup, and it looks fine when I stretch it beyond the limits of my main screen). I've also fixed the border appearance under IE, Safari and OmniWeb (I think), leaving just the weird rendering errors under WebKit-based browsers to fix... and honestly, I'm too busy right now. What thinks you of its current state? RandyWang (chat/patch) 12:42, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Kpjas' RFA
Hi Randy!
On Kpjas' RFA, you have voted neutral based on his apparent lack of experience, ("I'm torn on this one, with your excellent long-term service on one hand but apparently limited contributions in important areas on the other. Sorry"). In fact, Kpjas is already an admin on the Polish Wikipedia, and has 37,000 edits there, including 2,600 to WP space over there. You have voted neutral based on inexperience, but these facts clearly indicate plenty of experience in the required areas. Randy, you want an experienced editor for admin. Kpjas is clearly experienced. Without badgering you, I urge you to reconsider your vote in this particular RfA. Happy editing! :)--Firsfron of Ronchester 01:53, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Randy,
- Thanks for your note on Kpjas' RfA page. Whatever you decide, I appreciate that you will take a moment to review the facts in this RFA. Best wishes and good luck with your school debate! :) Firsfron of Ronchester 10:04, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note, I'd never have noticed that he was an admin elsewhere if you hadn't pointed it out. I'll vote in a tick (I just got home), when I've made some tea. Unfortunately, it wasn't my debate, but one of a team of Year 7s that I happen to coach. Fortunately, they won (obviously because of my hard work ;) ). Woo. - Hi Randy,
- I saw your change of vote on the RfA. Thanks for taking the time to reconsider your vote. Happy tea. :) Best, Firsfron of Ronchester 10:37, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for being awesome yourself. Not everyone will reconsider an RfA vote, as if RfA opinions are something set in stone, and can never be changed. Thanks for your flexibility. --Firsfron of Ronchester 10:58, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

speedy criteria
Are you aware that admins can delete articles directly using the CSD criteria, without ever placing a tag/waiting for it to show up in CAT:CSD? Policy and precedent support this behavior, which may be one reason people are having reservations over giving you your own 'delete' button. By the way, if you don't pass this time, I'm sure you'll do fine in a few months. Good luck. -- nae'blis 16:43, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

It may have been a whole-hearted support, but Crzrussian is generally pretty enthusiastic in his supports, so I feel that some fair concerns may have been raised. Oh well, most people seem to think that you would do well with a few more months under your belt, so I wouldn't worry excessively. Chin up, matie :) Uni is horrendous, in fact I should probably go off now to study for a Maths test tomorrow Aren't you looking forward to it next year? :) Well, I'm glad you're doing well. By the way, is that your old pal Xino way up there? (User:DA MAN) Bah, if you need some muscle power, you know where to find me ;) Later! — riana_dzasta • t • c • e • ER • 09:10, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, that's so nice of her! Um, you can if you want to... but have you seen some of the other pages? Like... wow! Mine's just pretty colours. I'd be pretty embarrassed if I was up for something like that, I think. So... errr... hehe, I'm trying to politely decline. Plus, not to sound like a cynic, but I feel it's nigh impossible to win something like that if you're not in 'the clique'. I'm sure you know what I mean. But thanks for the thought :) And Lex gets a cookie. — riana_dzasta • t • c • e • ER • 05:55, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

- Yeah, in the very distant future :p So you saw The Tempest, eh? That musta been amazing. The Boy From Oz is in Adelaide, so we're going to see it on Sunday night – that should be pretty exciting. Hopefully exciting enough to improve the article on it I've signed my soul away to Wikipedia... oh dear. I'm off to have an argument with my printer, I'll be back when we've sorted our problems out. — riana_dzasta • t • c • e • ER • 09:55, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
It refuses to do anything but flash lights at me angrily. We're watching each other right now... wind whistling in our ears... tumbleweed rolling across our path... all because I didn't feed it paper quick enough. What's a girl gotta do to keep everyone happy? :( — riana_dzasta • t • c • e • ER • 10:25, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

RE: My RfA
Sure thing! I just responded on your RfA page. Also, I wouldn't lose hope yet as RfA's remain open for a week and yours has only been active for about 24 hours; plus, you seem to have a lot of support from the community so far. My opposition is firm, but if the community continues their support, then I'm sure they will have made the right decision. Cheers and good luck! hoopydinkConas tá tú? 10:31, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- I ought to apologize for the excessive amount of suffering you've endured in your RfA with me and hoopydink snooping around and stirring up arguments. Well, mostly hoopydink - you have struck the Irish nerve... :) Anyway, I wanted you to know, I think you're a great user, and the concerns, though serious enough to preclude supporting you at this time, are certainly rectifiable and, from my knowledge of you, I expect them to be rectified. Do NPP right for a couple of months and you will have my enthusiastic support. I am offering you the same thing I did with Yanksox for a month before his adminship: discussing interesting cases from Special:Newspages and CAT:CSD in gmail chat in real time, if/when we're both online (which could be a problem, since you're in Australia). - CrazyRussian talk/email 12:37, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
DRM redux
RW, I can't agree with your edit summary in your recent edit at DRM. The dispute is not, aso far as I can see, settled, but rather in abeyance for fear of an edit war. So your comment that "we've been here before", implying that it's been settled is not accurate. This article is not bad, if disorganized and not up to some ideal standard of presentation. Butwith Vista containing a bunch of DRM, it's about to become a major issue -- much more htan it has been, and it's hardly been small potatoes thus far.
So, to the extent you're the neutral cleanup taskforce agent here, you should, in my view, walk that fine line between the three sides of 1) DRMs just fine and is fully justified 2) DRM is never justified as it fails to recognize logn-standing and not repealed user rights (copies for archival purposes or on other media, for instance) 3) both sides should be equally mentioned to avoid taking any 4) the construal of the term should be, at least most prominently, left to those who claim to have invented it (more or less on the grounds that it's theirs to construe as they wish -- a kind of ownership position as it were). How you can do so is less clear to me, but this edit summary does not contribute well to such an end.
On another subject, have you finished the books I suggested? Want more? ww 06:24, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

- Agreed. You'll pass easily next time. It was a bit of a shame that that one specific incident occured right before your RfA, but it's pretty clear you learned from that (well, I hope it's clear - I changed my !vote on it...). I also really disagree with opposing based on the fact that a name could have an alternate sexual meaning, but each to his own. - Awww, I'm so sorry your RFA failed. :( I really do think you deserve the extra buttons. I guess the only advice I have is be more careful about tagging speedies - we've all made the mistake but at RFA your record is on prominent display. I think you'll do great next time, though. The username thing is unfortunate; I'm sure it was unintentional. I doubt it'll be enough to hold you back next time, though. Good luck next time; keep me updated! =) Srose (talk) 14:01, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

- After seeing your intent to change your name, I was researching your record this morning to decide where to move my position when the discussion closed. - Ah, don't let em get ya down, kiddo :) You'll fly through the next one, I'd bet a million Wikibucks on that. The username thing was a bit dodgy too, hopefully that won't continue to be a concern.

Sorry to see it didn't pass, I was confident enough to remove my oppose before the end. I'd be happy to vote next time if you'll drop me a line (especially if you change names, something I don't personally think is necessary in your case, but..) -- nae'blis 16:51, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
I'm wishing you all the best too and hope you are not saddened or pissed off by your unsuccessful RFA ;-). Going through an RfA is a hard thing these days. Requirements on admins are constantly increasing (admins must "walk on water", be ambassadors, whatever - oh noes!). However, the important thing is to be a Wikipedian - adminship is no big deal. Admins are not more valuable or more important than anbody else. They have to act on behalf of consensus. Nothing else. --Ligulem 08:10, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your response on my editor review :-). I have been using edit summaries more lately than I did in the past, but I will take extra care to make sure I'm doing them from now on. For the most part, I usually do make an edit summary for article edits, but not when I'm editing my userpage or a talk page. And, yes, lately I have been getting more involved in the Wikipedia namespace and it is great experience. I'm not sure that I'm planning of running for admin, but if I ever decide to do so I think I'll wait until I have at least 2,000 edits or more. - Mike 19:27, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I'm just sending out a message for a new study I will be undertaking soon. It will involve surveys & polls to gather information & trends of editors on Wikipedia & other subjects. The data gathering will involve yourself recieving a questionaire on your talk page for you to fill out. I will then collect your questionaire & combine it with data from other editors. If you would like to be a part of this experiment, or know of someone who does, place a "Yes" or "No" below this message. Remember, it's only for fun & you can choose not to fill out all or parts of your questionaire once they arrive. Have a nice day... -- Spawn Man 06:24, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
