[edit] LeDoux article
Hi! I admit to being surprised at seeing a red link pop up for Chris LeDoux...but we now have a slight problem. Since you did the rewrite over the original page, the copyright violation is now a part of the edit history. You might want to drop a howdy over to an admin who can likely help fix it up for you in turn. User:Raul654 is one of the best. - Lucky 6.9 19:44, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)
-
- Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I'll contact him. Dave C. 22:52, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I spoke to Raul and he indicated that it's pretty much accepted that copyvios will become part of the edit history. Other than that, do you see any problems with my edits to clear the vios? Thanks. -- Dave C. 01:06, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- None I can see. Looks good now. If the copyvios are only in the edit history and not the current incarnation, I guess we're in good shape. BTW, "Apostrophe" is one of my all-time favorite albums as well! I used "Yellow Snow" as part of a final exam in my college broadcasting class years ago. Have a great weekend. - Lucky 6.9 20:32, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)

- Very cool! Thanks, have a good one yourself! Dave C. 01:19, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Time Cube
We are facing a pointless revert war with 211.28.*.*, and based on the talk pages he/she has a lot more patience than any of us. I think we need to move this into mediation or at least a survey (so we can have an official consensus favouring a simple page). I've proposed this idea to 211.28.*.* on the talk page, please feel free to join in and add similar comments. Cheradenine 18:25, 1 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] 208.248.11.18
You are quite welcome sir, it was my pleasure. :-) ~~Shiri — Talk~~ 04:45, Jun 12, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Please vote
Could you please vote to get the user we call "Time Cube Guy" banned (Wikipedia:Requests for comment/211.28.*.*)? It looks like you tried to deal with him in the Greenwich Mean Time-related articles. —Sean κ. + 16:48, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Mermaid Avenue
It's not about whether I think it's a folk album or not...it's straight category cleanup: Category:Billy Bragg albums is already a subcategory of Category:Folk albums, so Mermaid Avenue doesn't need to be simultaneously filed in both categories. Wikipedia actually has a stated policy about not filing articles in redundant categories. Bearcat 04:48, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] cubism
It's easier for admins to revert. The easiest way for non-admins to revert is to click on the "history" tab of the article, click on the date of the version you want to restore, click edit this page (it will warn you it's an "out-of-date" version), fill in the edit summary ("rv" would do), and click the "Save Page" button. That's four clicks or so - a bit more odious than the one-click admin revert. But still often worthwhile<g>. You mentioned copying the old source...that really would be a pain in the butt, so I suspect the method I just outlined might be new to you? - Nunh-huh 06:08, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
- Glad to have taught you a new trick. Remember, then: never for evil<g>. - Nunh-huh 06:16, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Frank Zappa discography
A bold move. I don't know many other artists (not even Miles Davis) having pages to themselves just for a discography. Good decision, it could not be possibly fully featured on the main page for longer, the article size is veering towards 40Kb
-
- I noticed that The Beatles have their own discography. So do The Rolling Stones . FZ was 42kb; it's down to 39 now. Not sure that saved much bulk, but physical length of the article is much less. -- Dave C. 00:39, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Peter Rowan discography
When adding "New Freedom Bell" to the Peter Rowan discography, I noticed 2 albums listed for 2009 ("Peter Rowan and the Red Hot Pickers" and "San Antonio Sound". I can only assume this is a typo, but I don't know the correct years. Cmadler 13:51, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for welcoming
Hello Dave Cohoe, thanks for welcoming me and also for sending me that nice link about this MIT studie concerning mobile phone activities in Graz. Some of the pictures you can download are really amazing. I also had a look at your user page and I was quite astonished to how many countries/states you have already been. I like that kind of visualization and if you don't mind I will just copy it for my page. If that's not alright with just let me know. Have a nice day, Thomas Schenkeli 10:59, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

Hi Dave C
I am planning to make major additions to the article on Igor Andreev...just thought I should let someone know before I start. Thanks Aabha R 07:12, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
Hi!..umm..I have edited the page Igor Andreev..am just a bit apprehensive because its my first piece of work. Oh, and thanks for welcoming me onboard! Aabha R 13:27, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
- Looks fine to me. BTW, you don't need to check with anyone; just make common sense edits. It looks like you've done that. I am a bit curious about the copyright of the picture you've added. I don't think I've seen that tag used before. -- Dave C.talk | Esperanza 03:07, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Copyvio template
Well the reason I created that template was in response to a trend that I noticed. Most new users on Wikipedia simply do not understand the concept of plagiarism or the policies Wikipedia has on it. Whether it simply wasn't taught in their school or maybe there was more tolerance I do not know. What I do know is that most repeat offenders of copyright violations do "Google dumps" believing that they are improving Wikipedia's breadth of content. Once they do a dump, they move on and create more pages, not knowing that are violating copyrights. This is because it is mostly the users reporting these violations do not alert the users on their talk pages. I noticed that it was not a recommended policy to alert copyright violators on first offenses so I took it upon myself to create such a template and alert every user on Wikipedia:Copyright violations but it became too daunting of a task to carry on.
My thoughts was simply that Wikipedia needed an extra provision in reporting copyright violations, that when a user reports a violation of a copyright, that they also alert the user. My template would facilitate such a task. I now see that since then, Wikipedia has added that provision. I do think that the nothanks template is lacking. Should we start a movement to improve it along the lines of my template? — oo64eva (Alex) (U | T | C) @ 17:56, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Dave C.JPG
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Dave C.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 07:45, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:David_Grisman.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:David_Grisman.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
