[edit] Adoption
Would you like to be adopted? Let me know which areas interest you here on WP and I might be able to help! A message on my Talk page is the best way to contact me. I am on UK time (GMT+0), if that is an issue. (aeropagitica) 23:49, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hi there! Thanks for your offer of adoption. Sorry it took me so long to get around to responding, I almost forgot about it! If you're still interested, I would be delighted to be adopted by you. It would be nice to have someone who can help me out once in a while. This Wikipedia business is fun, but a little overwhelming. The UK time issue is not a problem seeing as I am in the UK myself :) DaveMuadDib 18:05, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Not a problem, welcome aboard! You can ask me any question about Wikipedia editing, policy or process that occurs to you. Don't be afraid! I'll try to help as best I can. Check out my Talk page and archives for other questions that my adoptees have asked. You might have similar questions. Welcome to Wikipedia and have a great time contributing, ok? [edit] Template
I wanted you to know that this "standardized" template that YOU created isn't going to work. You are using a template the reflects that gaming templates. There is a reason why there are already "fictional" templates on wikipedia. The template for Freddy was modeled after Jabba the Hutt, which is a Featured Article about a fictional character. Please note the color scheme and categories in the infobox. Bignole 04:44, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- There was nothing "hostile" about my message. If you are referring to the "YOU", I tend to capitalize so that emphasis can be seen, since it can go unnoticed in text while someone reads. Go to a gaming page to note their infobox compared to yours. Then go to the Jabba the Hutt page to see the fictional character info box. As for the boxes, they have gotten out of hand with what should be there. Most of these fictional character articles have turned into biographies, as if they were real people. The box should contain information that is about the character that would be relevant to the real world, like concept, design, etc. Note Jabba's "portrayed by", it covers the appearances of the character. There shouldn't be a "family", "friends", or "status" section because that has nothing to do with the character's creation. When he died in the fictional world is irrelevant, because he isn't real, the same about the family and friends. Bignole 05:00, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- If you want to create a template, that's fine, but I would suggest a new color scheme. See Hitman (computer game series), Star Wars: Battlefront, or Jaws Unleashed for examples of why your colors may conflict with other standard templates. As for Jabba's categories, "Criminal", "Hermaphrodite (male personality)" and "Crime lord", they are all part of the concept that went behind creating him. These are characteristics attributed to him for his characterization in the film. That's why I those others from Freddy. Bignole 05:25, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- Also, it would probably be a good idea to bring this to the attention of other editors so people can have input about it. It's a rather major addition. It would be like creating your own WikiProject based on what you think should be there. Bignole 05:29, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- Don't look at them as "mistakes", it was a mistake for me to have left some of them up there for as long as I did, and allowed the others to come to fruitation. I assume you were probably just following what was already there. I've been busy revamping the entire Jason Voorhees page in Sandbox|my personal sandbox. I tend to ignore most of what goes on on the other pages because it won't do any good unless you can correct everything in one edit. Bignole 05:45, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry about it (the tone thing), I actually get it alot. I tend to use CAPS a lot and people read it wrong and we spend the first part of the convo explaing how it was taken/given. I'll update the Freddy article with your template. Bignole 06:05, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re:Freddy
The "Origin" shouldn't be "origin". This isn't a real person. My template for how I work is Jabba the Hutt. What is currently the "origin" on Freddy, is actually the "Film Appearances" for Jabba. They should be small, brief and to the point. The film history should only be used as an explaination for out of universe information you find on the character. Read through the Jabba appearances section, and my Jason one for some examples. Jason has 11 films to deal with, so the Freddy version shouldn't be longer than his. Bignole 23:39, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
- I thought it looked about the same, i thought maybe you had made some change in the wording. I wasn't sure, because I steer clear of most of the pages because they are in so much of a wreck. I'm glad I'm going to have someone helping me. I thought I'd have to do this for each one of them individually. Also, I just noticed that you have gallows humor, but I think that isn't quite accurate. Gallows tends to be about people who make jokes about themselves, and not about others. Freddy usually does it to others. Bignole 01:01, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I'll keep an eye on the page as you work it. I'll be hands off with the exception of things like what I just corrected, which was the piped lnk; things that won't interfere with what you do to the page, your style. Why didn't you create that userbox? That's a cool one, I tried to put it on my page but it wasn't made. I created a couple of user boxes myself. You should create yours. Do you know how? Bignole 01:25, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Cool, I added it to my profile. Oh, good job condensing the film appearances. They look much better now. If you are looking for sources, I believe there may be a Nightmare Companion. Here is a site where you can see all the literature for Freddy. The bottom "Other books" I believe are non-fiction books that have info. Don't know what they costs, and if you'd want to buy them (if you haven't already), but for good articles, you need a couple paper sources. Sometimes you can get lucky and find web versions of the paper sources. Bignole 03:09, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- No worries. It'll take some time to get everything up to snuff enough to be bold and replace an entire page. Then you have to fight off those and provide Wiki policies to support what you did. Bignole 03:33, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
-
- I cleaned up some of the sources, mainly from the info that was still from the original article. Look at what I did for future references with citations. You'll have to go to the sources for the citations that are already there and check them to see if you are going to use them, or if they are correct. Then just update the citations with the appropriate information. Bignole 03:32, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

- I can tell you now that the lead will need to be trimmed and rewritten, but don't worry about that now. The Lead paragraph should be the last thing you do, because it's supposed to be a summary of the entire article. As for the rest, when you have a good first draft up, I'll read through it and see how it sounds, then I'll let you know. Bignole 04:53, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
