- Born in New York, attended MIT in the later 1960s.
- First professional job at the IBM Cambridge Scientific Center in 1968.
- Played a hands-on role in CP/CMS, VM/370, IBM SNA, DECnet Phase II, Telenet X.25, OSI, and quite a few other interesting areas.
