Davis Motorsports is a NASCAR Busch Series team owned by Johnny Davis. They run the #0 car which is currently piloted by Eric McClure.
The team started in 2003, running the full schedule with Rookie of the Year candidate Jason White. Jason made 31 races. The team also ran the #70 part-time with veteran Morgan Shepherd driving.
Jason White was released after the 2003 season and replaced with Jimmy Kitchens for 2004. A second full time team was added, the #10 piloted by Jason Schuler After disapointing runs, however, both drivers were soon released. Gus Wasson was drafted in from Ortec Racing to run the #10 car for the rest of the season; he made a majority of the races. The #0 had a less stable driver lineup and consequently had a difficult time qualifying for races. Mike Potter, Morgan Shepherd, and Greg Sacks all attempted races before the team reduced their schedule and concentrated on the #10. Johnny's son Kertus Davis was later brought in and the #0 was back full time. Kertus made 3 races with some pretty solid top 30 finishes.
In 2005 the team gave up on the #10 and handed it back to ppc Racing. Kertus Davis continued as the full time driver for the #0 and made a majority of the races. The car was generally unreliable and Kertus scored mostly DNFs. For Mexico, Mexican Rafael Martinez drove finished 43rd with engine troubles. At the very least there were some good qualifying performances as Kertus started 16th at Phoenix, then 25th at Talladega where Kertus avoided the many crashes and finished 10th (by far the team's best finish to date). It was back to reality after that, however, given that Kertus did manage to qualify 11th at Kansas later in the year.
Kertus Davis returned for the full 2006 season but had a tougher time qualifying for races, missing the season opening Daytona race. Randy LaJoie ran at Mexico and used his Champion's Provisional to make the field but finished 43rd. Davis continued to struggle with realiability issues but again impresed at Talladega, qualifying 10th and staying with the lead group before his race was ruined by a punctured tire. Kertus was then given trial runs with Frank Cicci Racing and Curb Agajanian Performance Group; Morgan Shepherd returned to fill the #0 seat for these few races. Kertus Davis then made some qualifying runs for Denny Hamlin when Denny had scheduling conflicts with Nextel Cup events. Thereafter, Kertus returned to the #0 and continued to struggle. The team ran road course specialist PJ Jones at Watkins Glen. PJ gave the team its best ever qualifying effort with 9th and was running in the top 10 before engine troubles struck. Kertus stayed in the seat for the rest of the season and made most of the races. Chris Wimmer made a one off appearence at Memphis but failed to qualify.
For 2007 Johnny Davis teamed up with Duesenberg & Leik Motorsports and renamed the team D.D.L. Motorsports and used the #01 team's 2006 owner's points to guaranty a starting spot for the first few races. Eric McClure signed up to run the oval races, bringing sponsor Hefty aboard. At Fontana, the team ran a second car: the #01 with Morgan Shepherd driving. Shepherd and McClure finished 41st and 40th, respectively, out of 41 drivers. At Mexico the team ran 18 year old JR Fitzpatrick Jr.. JR spun in the opening laps but finished just one lap down. McClure returned for Las Vegas and finished 26th.
