From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Yurman (born October 12, 1942) is the founder of the David Yurman jewelry company. His signature jewelery line is comprised of "cable" jewelry, made from twisted, sterling silver ropes.

Established in 1979, the company is internationally recognized as one of America's leading fine jewelers.[citation needed] Yurman, along with his wife Sybil, have sought, in the company's words, "to fuse art, fashion and fine jewelry.".[citation needed] The company is also notable for its use of supermodels in its advertising campaigns. Past campaigns have included models such as Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, and Amber Valletta. In 2006, Naomi Watts replaced Valleta as the face of the brand. There are also many celebrities that have been seen wearing David Yurman including Steven Spielberg, Kevin Spacey, and Ashley Judd.

Yurman jewelry can be found at Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, some Carlyle & Co. stores and other retailers. Recently, Yurman has opened flagship stores in Manhasset, New York City, South Coast Plaza, Bal Harbour, Houston, Atlanta, and Las Vegas. A King of Prussia Mall store has opened in October 2006. The Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive location opened in January of 2007 and is expected to generate $4 million dollars in sales in 2007, according to Women's Wear Daily . Another store will open in March 2007 at The Domain in Austin, Texas.Yurmans annual sales in estimated to be $450 million.

[edit] Counterfeiting

Yurman jewelry has long been seen as a status symbol.[citation needed] Because of this, many knock offs of his pieces have been created. Yurman is intensely possessive of his signature cable design, and has boasted that he earns well over a million per year settling copyright and trade infringement lawsuits.[citation needed] An important difference between the counterfeit and real jewelry is that the real authentic David Yurman jewelry will oxidize and start to turn black in between the cables which gives the jewelry an antique and unique look.
