David Wilde (cricketer)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
David Wilde (born July 3, 1950) was an English cricketer. He was a left-handed batsman and a left-arm medium-fast bowler who played for Derbyshire between 1971 and 1972. He was born in Glossop.
With one Second XI appearance at the end of the 1960s, Wilde became a frequent number eleven for the second-string team during the 1970 season, before making his first-class debut the following year. In an abysmal 1971, Wilde took three wickets on his debut, for a team which stayed rooted to the foot of the table throughout the season with only one win to their credit.
Derbyshire fared no better the following year, though Wilde was to record his best bowling figures of 3-27 later this season against Essex.
Wilde would play limited-overs cricket extensively throughout 1972, but would exit the professional game in the same year. During his short time in the Derbyshire first XI, he assumed the mantle of number eleven batsman from frequent England Test tailender Mike Hendrick.
