David Slater was the Male Vocalist champion on Star Search in 1987. Slater then signed a recording contract with Capitol Records and launched a country music career in Nashville, Tennessee. He released two critically-acclaimed albums on Capitol in the late 1980's entitled Exchange of Hearts and Be with Me. Several of Slater's radio singles including "I'm Still Your Fool" reached the top 40 on Billboard and other charts. Slater performs regularly as a singer and piano player and is currently based in Dallas, Texas. In addition to his own music, Slater now specializes in performing the nolstalgic pop hits made famous by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, and others.

Since his Star Search and Billboard chart success, Slater's life has been punctuated with run-ins with the law. These include a 2002 conviction in Tennessee for auto burglary, theft and forgery, for which he served 90 days of a 4-year sentence, and in January 2007, an arrest and indictment on six counts of burglary of computer equipment from a Midlothian, Texas middle school. Slater had been an associate pastor at a church which previously held worship services at the school.[1]
