From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Simmons was the Australian Labor Party elected member for the Division of Calare, an Australian Electoral Division for the House of Representatives in the Australian Parliament from 1983 to 1996. David Simmons' electorate office was located at Bathurst, New South Wales. David Simmons' term in office was of interest in that he was always in government and never in opposition, entering parliament upon the election of Prime Minister Bob Hawke at the Australian general election, 1983, and retiring at the time of Prime Minister Paul Keating losing the Australian general election, 1996 to new Prime Minister John Howard. At the 1996 federal election, the seat of Calare was won by independent member Peter Andren, and has had no Labor representation since. David Simmons no longer lives in the electorate.
