David Shapira

David Shapira is an American businessman and leader of Giant Eagle, Inc. He initially did not intend to be part of the business, and studied at Stanford, before returning to Giant Eagle in the early 1980s. He has been Chairman for more than twenty years. Both he and his late wife Karen were very involved in Pittsburgh philanthropy, especially in the Jewish community.

Shapira was also co-founder of Phar Mor, a discount drug store chain that robbed investors of over $1 billion. Michael Monus, co-founder the was found guilty and sentenced to jail.
