David Rupert

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Rupert is a former FBI/British intelligence agent whose testimony led to the arrest and prosecution of Michael McKevitt, the reputed leader of the Real IRA, for the Omagh Bombing which resulted in the killing of 29 people and maiming of 220 others. [1].

It is not clear if the 6'5" Madrid, New York-native ever met Michael McKevitt, who was convicted and is in prison.

[According to The Guardian] "[i]t has emerged that when, in November 2000, it was first suggested to Rupert that he testify against McKevitt, the American informer balked at the idea ... [i]t is understood that he changed his mind after the FBI told him it knew of his affair with a member of the Irish Freedom Committee in Chicago. Federal agents even produced photographs of the flat in downtown Chicago where they alleged that Rupert met the woman ... [s]ince agreeing to testify against McKevitt, Rupert has come under pressure to give evidence against other Real IRA and Continuity IRA figures, including Colm Murphy, the only man convicted of offences relating to the Omagh bomb attack." [2]

David Rupert is reportedly in a witness protection program somewhere in the United States.
