David Ernest Peckinpah (born September 5, 1951 - died April 23, 2006) was a television writer, producer and director. He died of a heart attack in Vancouver, British Columbia [1]. David Peckinpah was the nephew of film director Sam Peckinpah.

David Peckinpah's work on Sliders has been controversial. According to inside sources, Peckinpah was installed by FOX to take control of the show away from its creators, Tormé and Weiss. He reduced their input on the show to nothing, and it was he who wrote out Arturo and Wade (both due to a personal dislike of the characters, and because Rhys-Davies and Lloyd had trouble coexisting with FOX executives and Wuhrer, respectively), and he added a very unpopular military background to Rembrandt's character. He also came up with ideas for episodes that were extremely derivative of films that were popular at the time. In Season 4, it was Peckinpah's decision to retcon Quinn's homeworld as Kromagg Prime and not Earth Prime (and his parents as not being his biological parents), and to veto plot arc attempts by writer Marc Scott Zicree to simplify the obfuscated plot that resulted from the retcons.[1]

Several fans on JumptheShark.com cite Peckinpah's involvement as the moment when the show jumped the shark [2]. On the other hand, Keith Damron, who worked with Peckinpah on Sliders, said of him on June 29, 1999, "David is a great guy to work for and professional to the core." [3]
