David P. Thompson

David Preston Thompson (born November 8, 1834 in Cadiz, Ohio – died December 14, 1901 in Portland, Oregon) was governor of Idaho Territory from 1875 to 1876.
While governor Thompson oversaw several mail contracts, maintained his residence in Oregon and made only brief trips to Idaho Territory. President Ulysses S. Grant asked for and received his resignation in the summer of 1876. Thompson later served as Portland mayor and as United States minister to the Ottoman Empire.
