[edit] Personal

Nicknamed "Circus Kircus" by Grand Valley Lanthorn sports editor Michael Kohon for his acrobatic catches, he is the son of Anthony and Elaine Kircus. He grew up in Imlay City, Michigan. Also a hero on many local Detroit Lions message forums and has a t-shirt titled "What Would Kircus Do?" in his honor.

[edit] High school

He attended Imlay City (Mich.) High where he received All-Michigan Athletic Conference honors as a sophomore, junior and senior. He was the Detroit News All-State performer as a junior and senior and the three-time team captain. He rushed for a combined 1,827 yards and scored 38 touchdowns as a junior and senior. He also caught 55 passes for 1,201 yards and 19 scores. He was lettered in four sports in high school.

[edit] College

He went to Grand Valley State University where his major was general studies. He was noted as an outstanding pass catcher who broke many school, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, NCAA Division II and overall collegiate receiving records. He scored 482 points during his career, the sixth-best total in college history and second in Division II behind Emporia State's Brian Shay (544, 1995-98). His 482 points also shattered the school record of 362 by Eric Lynch (1988-91). Only Barry Sanders has topped his college high of 212 points in a single season (2002). He set several of the school's all-time records with 241 catches for 4,523 yards (18.8 avg.) and 80 touchdowns. His 241 grabs set a conference record and his 4,523 yards rank sixth in college football history and is topped only by Ferris State's Clarence Coleman (4,983, 1998-2001) on the Division II all-time chart. His 80 touchdowns set a collegiate record, topping the old mark of 75 scores by Scott Pingel of Westminster College (1996-99) He added 566 yards on 54 punt returns (10.5 avg.). He had at least one touchdown catch in 26 of his last 28 games.

Following the 2002 season, Kircus took part in off season workouts for professional scouts. Many in the NFL questioned the competition he faced on the Division 2 level, however Kircus would silence many critics with a solid workout at GVSU in which 25 NFL teams were represented. He posted a very solid 4.47 in the 40 yard dash, and also had a very impressive 40-inch vertical leap. These measurables were on par with several of the top receivers in the draft. Kircus also improved his stock with a strong showing at the 2003 Hula Bowl, a showcase for college stars. He was named co-MVP along with fellow wide receiver Kassim Osgood.

[edit] Professional

He was selected by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL Draft and played for the Lions in 2003 and 2004. Kircus finished each of his first two seasons on Detroit's active roster after competing on its practice squad. In 12 career regular-season games (2 starts) he played with the Lions, the 25-year-old totaled six receptions for 121 yards (20.2 avg.) and one touchdown. He was waived by the Lions on September 3, 2005, and spent the 2005 regular season out of football. While away from the game, Kircus was employed by Subway in his native Imlay City.

Kircus signed with Denver in January 2006 and made the Broncos' active roster for the 2006 season following a very solid preseason. He has served as a reserve wide receiver, and has also seen time at kick/punt returner.
