David Hussey (born July 15, 1977) in Morley, Western Australia is an Australian cricketer who has represented Australia at under 19 level in his youth. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm offbreak bowler. He started his career in England at Horsham Cricket Club in Sussex.
Although Hussey, whose older brother Mike also plays cricket professionally, has played for Nottinghamshire since 2004, his cricketing prowess was acknowledged after an innings for the Victoria Bushrangers in 2003-04. In his first full season of first class cricket, he scored an unbeaten and quickfire 212 as his side scored a record 7-455 in the 4th innings to beat NSW in Newcastle. He finished the Australian summer with 857 runs at 61 followed by 1208 runs for Nottinghamshire in the English summer of 2004.
Back in Australia, Hussey played a handful of limited overs games for Australia A and scored a century against the West Indies. His four day form however let him down and after being dropped from the Victorian Pura Cup side he unsuccessfully asked Cricket Victoria for a release to return to Western Australia.
He returned to England in 2005 and had another prolific season for Nottinghamshire, scoring 1231 runs. He hit two centuries and one double century, 232* against Warwickshire as his county went on to win the championship.
Another modest Pura Cup season for Victoria in 2005-06 got 500 runs at an average of just over 30. It was again in the one day arena where he impressed as he smashed 535 runs at 76.42. This tally included 130 against Queensland and he won the state's limited-overs player-of-the-year award.
In 2006-07 he repeated his Newcastle heroics with another match winning unbeaten century to beat NSW in the 4th innings. Captaining the side in the absence of Cameron White and Brad Hodge, Hussey finished with 125 as he side made 7 for 362 chasing 360 for victory. The winning runs came from his bat with a 6 off Stuart MacGill
Recently he has been given the nickname of Little Mr Cricket in the shadow of his older brother Michael who is known as Mr Cricket.
