David Hurley

David Hurley is a countertenor in the King's Singers, an a cappella vocal group.

Born in 1962, he started singing in 1970 when he won a place in the Winchester Cathedral Choir. His voice dropped to countertenor at age 13. After obtaining a degree in geography, he began as a freelance singer. In 1990, he joined the King's Singers, and as of 2006 still forms part of the group. David is married to Sarah Baldock who is the assistant director of music at Winchester Cathedral. She is a very fine organist and soloist in her own right. David spends about 9 months of the year touring and is renowned for his high, rich and powerful voice. They have a house near Winchester. David was head chorister at Winchester cathedral as a treble soloist and subsequently studied at Winchester College and New College Oxford, reading for a degree in Geography. He sang for a period of time in London before joining the King's Singers.
