Captain David Gold is a fictional character in the non-canon Star Trek series Starfleet Corps of Engineers.
David Gold is the captain of the U.S.S. da Vinci. He is a Jewish man who is apparently at least sixty or seventy years old. He is married to rabbi Rachel Gilman and together they have many children and grandchildren. The family hails from the Bronx in New York City. One of his granddaughters is married to a Klingon named Khor.
David Gold rarely interferes with the engineers' tasks and maintains a good camaraderie with the crew. However, on one occasion he had an argument with Doctor Elizabeth Lense about genetic engineering, which Lense told him was necessary to save a dying race, but Gold felt was unethical. Gold eventually gave in and let Lense proceed on the work.
A traumatic moment in his life came during the mission to rescue the U.S.S. Orion at Galvan IV. During that mission the U.S.S. da Vinci was severely damaged. Capt. Gold lost his hand and most of his crew members were killed during the mission.
After the mission Capt. Gold had to stand before a Starfleet tribunal to answer for his actions during the mission and was cleared of all charges.
