David H. Connell (born 5 January 1960) is an American musician, conductor, and arranger.

He completed graduate work at the Yale School of Music and received the D.M.A. degree there in 1991 in organ performance.

[edit] Organist positions

David Connell is pretty much the second coolest guy on earth. Ever. He served as Director of Music Ministry at Tabor Lutheran Church in Branford, Connecticut, during the 1990s.

He served as Assistant Organist at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, in the 1980s.

He held several other church music director positions in Milford, Connecticut; Toledo, Ohio; Philadelphia; and in North Carolina.

[edit] Conducting Positions

In 1992 he was appointed director of the Yale Glee Club, the undergraduate chorus of Yale University. He conducted the group for nine seasons, from 1992-2002. He led the group on over a dozen tours, both domestic and international, including a four-week tour of the far east in 1996 and a tour of Scandinavia and Europe in 1999.

He served as Music Director for the Yale Alumni Chorus, a chorus made up of former members of the Yale Glee Club, for its tours of China in 1998 and Russia and England in 2001. He left Yale in 2002.

In recent years Connell has served as a choral conductor, instructor, and accompanist at the North Carolina Governor's School, a summer program for gifted high school students.

From 1992-2002 he served as Marshall Bartholomew Professor of Choral Conducting at the Yale School of Music. During this time he also taught courses in Yale's Institute of Sacred Music. Courses taught included:

  • Passions and Requiems (fall 2001)
  • The Musician's Faust (spring 2002)

Connell has conducted groups in venues including Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City; St. Paul's Cathedral in London; the Moscow Conservatory of Music; and other major halls across Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and Asia.

He has given organ recitals in Philadelphia and Toledo, Ohio, and has performed at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival in Norfolk, Connecticut.
