David Ashby

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Glynn Ashby (born 14 May 1940) was the British Conservative Member of Parliament for Leicestershire North West from 1983 until he stood down in 1997.

Ashby resigned in 1994 as a Parliamentary Private Secretary after it was revealed that during a business trip he had shared a hotel bed with another man. Ashby claimed the incident was innocent as he had sought to save money on an expenses claim and sued against press reports that he was homosexual. In the resulting court case Ashby's own estranged wife gave evidence against him and he lost the trial.

Ashby was a member of the Greater London Council from 1977.
