Dave Scott (athlete)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dave Scott (born January 4, 1954) is a successful U.S. triathlete. He won the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii six times in 1980, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986, and 1987. Only his rival, Mark Allen, managed to match these six titles eight years later. Scott is also referred to as "The Man".

Dave Scott came out of 'retirement' in 1994 at age 40 to take second place at the Hawaii Ironman World Championships, very nearly winning for a record-breaking seventh time. In 1996 at age 42, he returned again to place 5th.

Having started his impressive winning streak only two years after the first ever ironman contest, Dave Scott shaped the sport of triathlon like no other U.S. athlete. His victories and his heart-breaking battles with Mark Allen are highlights in the history of the sport in the US.

Today, Dave Scott is still actively competing in triathlons. He also works as a triathlon coach, fitness consultant, motivational speaker, commentator, and corporate consultant.

Dave Scott grew up in Davis, California, where he was a star water polo player at Davis High School and UC Davis. Scott is married with three children, and lives in Boulder, Colorado. He is a vegetarian.
