[edit] Football Career

Raised in Kent, Martin moved to Eastbourne when he was 10 and was spotted by Brighton & Hove Albion, playing for Sussex schools. He moved up through the youth ranks before becoming disillusioned with the set-up at Brighton. He quit football for nearly two years, before moving back to Kent and joining local side Slade Green. David impressed at Slade Green and caught the attention of Dartford in the summer of 2005. In his first season at Dartford Martin played a total of 47 games, scoring 11 goals an excellent return for a winger. In his next half season at Dartford Martin scored 6 goals. The young winger impressed hugely at the Darts, and after impressing several south-London Football League sides, Martin moved to Palace in January 2007, for a fee of £25,000.[1]

Martin made his debut for Crystal Palace in a 1-0 win over Southend at Roots Hall on 20th February 2007, replacing Paul Ifill on 90 minutes. He then subsequently made his home debut in the 2-1 win over Luton Town on 24th February 2007. He came on as a 60th minute substitute replacing the injured Matt Lawrence.

[edit] Trivia

  • Dave earnt the nickname "Microwave Dave" whilst he was playing at Slade Green. He was heating up a meal in the microwave, when he forgot to remove the tin foil. Because of this the microwave then exploded. All of this was witnessed by his dad, hence was known as "Microwave Dave". The name has stuck and he is still called it by his friends.
