Dave Lovering (born David Lovering, December 6, 1961) is an American drummer for the influential alternative rock band Pixies. Following the band's breakup in 1993, Lovering pursued a career as a "The Scientific Phenomenalist", performing experiments on stage, and occasionally opening for Frank Black and Kim Deal's band The Breeders. When the Pixies reunited in 2004, Lovering returned as the band's drummer.
[edit] Biography
Lovering studied electronic engineering in his college years at Wentworth Institute of Technology. With this knowledge, Lovering became what he calls a "Scientific Phenomenalist" because he felt he "couldn't top the Pixies". Lovering has brought his act to the United States as an opener for Frank Black, Grant Lee Phillips, The Breeders and Camper Van Beethoven.
Following the Pixies' 1993 break-up, Lovering drummed in Cracker and The Martinis. Lovering appears as a cop/security guard in Stereo 360's music video, "Superstar".
Lovering joined the Pixies after meeting their bass guitarist, Kim Deal, at a wedding reception. He is known for providing a very tight rhythm section with Deal, and for his smoothly sung deep vocal contributions for Pixies' songs such as "La, La, Love You" and "Make Believe". One track (the former) portraying his supposed humorous look at love, and the other being an ode to Debbie Gibson.
