David William Gregory (April 15, 1845 in Fairy Meadow, New South Wales - August 4, 1919 in Turramurra, New South Wales) was an Australian cricketer of the 19th century.
A right-handed batsman, Gregory was the Australian captain for the first three recognised Test matches between England and Australia in March and April 1877 and January 1879. For this fact alone, he will be forever remembered through cricket's history.
Gregory was also the captain of the New South Wales team that were involved in the infamous Sydney Riot of 1879 after he rebelled against an unpopular decision by Victorian umpire George Coulthard during a game against the touring English team.
He was part of a proud cricketing family, with four of his brothers and three of his nephews representing New South Wales at first-class level, while some time after retiring from playing in 1883 he was made honorary secretary of the New South Wales Cricket Association.
