Dave Faulkner (musician)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dave Faulkner is an Australian rock musician . He has written songs, sung, played guitar and other instruments with several influential bands, including the Hoodoo Gurus.

Faulkner grew up in Perth, Western Australia and was a founding member, with James Baker of punk band The Victims, in 1977. Together they co-wrote the band's first single, "Television Addict", which is widely regarded as a classic and has featured on several punk compliations.

After The Victims split in 1979, Faulkner played keyboards with another Perth band, The Manikins, who also performed some of his songs.

In 1981, Baker and Faulkner founded the Hoodoo Gurus in Sydney. The band has enjoyed success in many countries without having a major international hit. The band, which has released eight original albums and several compilations, officially split in 1998, but has reformed occasionally for concerts.

Faulkner also wrote original music for a 1994 film, The Sum of Us. His song "Come Anytime" is the theme song to the Australian TV show Thank God You're Here. The Gurus have also reworked their hit, "What's My Scene?", also by Faulkner, as "That's My Team", the current promotional theme for the National Rugby League (NRL). Faulkner is a well-known, long-time supporter of NRL team the Cronulla Sharks.
