Dave Fanning

Dave Fanning is an Irish television and radio personality. He has also hosted The Last Broadcast on RTÉ Two television.

Educated at Blackrock College and University College Dublin Fanning began his career as a DJ on Dublin's pirate radio networks of the 1970s, before moving to RTÉ, where he has been a champion of Irish rock bands including U2. He hosted a weekly 8pm - 10pm slot for many years. In 1993, he was a launch presenter on London's Virgin Radio. Each December he compiles "Fanning's Fab 50", a collection of the 50 best songs ever as seen by his listeners at that time. The 2004 winner was U2's One.

In the past, he has claimed he was responsible for kick starting U2's music career^{[citation needed]}, an allegation which Bono has strongly denied.^{[citation needed]}

In 2005 he released a 3-CD set entitled Dave Fanning's Fab 50, a compilation of his listeners' favourite singles. This CD is made up of tracks from mostly Irish indie acts, but also features contributions from the likes of The Stone Roses and Dinosaur Jr and more recent acts like Franz Ferdinand.
