[edit] Career
Dave Bishop was responsible for setting up two of Manchester's comedy nights "Innocent Criminals" at the refurbished Zumeba on Oxford Road and "Beyond A Joke" at the Pleasure Bar in Withington along with former Channel 4 So You Think You're Funny finalist Rodney Marques. [1]
During Bishop's tenure as resident MC both clubs developed reputations as nights where anything could happen. This included a tradition he has carried on of booking American comedians, often unheard of in the UK including Norman Wilkerson. Due to Bishop's sometimes controversial nature, and on stage drinking he was often banned from his own clubs for short periods. He has been subject to attacks by members of the audience and one night, whilst he was hosting a member of the audience defecated in another audience members bag.
He has performed two solo shows at the Manchester Comedy Festival to some critical acclaim. [2]
In 2006 Bishop was responsible for bringing American comedian Doug Stanhope to England for the first time. The run ended with Bishop falling apart and Stanhope gaining the dubious honour of becoming the first person to vomit on stage in the Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool.
2007 will see Bishop complete a tour of the UK and Ireland in support of Sean Rouse.
There is a strong rumour that while at university Bishop was romantically involved with Playboy model Petra So.
Dave is related to Neil Cochrane captain of the Rotherham Titans rugby team.
[edit] Political stance
Dave is a representative for Captain Sensibles The Blah! Party. [3]
