Dave Aspden
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
David Aspden is the 41st mayor of Barrie, Ontario.
Aspden defeated incumbent mayor Robert J. Hamilton in the November, 2006 municipal election by a margin of 14,616 to 12,175 votes. Aspden's campaign took a populist approach, focussing on Hamilton's (failed) efforts to stop the "Park Place" retail area in the city's south end and ongoing construction delays related to the redevelopment of Lakeshore Drive. Hamilton, the owner of two large downtown bars, ran on his strong record of attracting new jobs to the city, but was unable to counter the perception among some voters that he was beholden to a "Downtown Elite".
Mr. Aspden was previously a police officer and a Barrie City Councillor representing Ward 2.
