Daughters of the Moon is a book series by Lynne Ewing. It is about four girls, later on five, who are mortal goddesses and fight an ancient evil called the Atrox. They each have different powers, destinies, and dark sides. They all wear moon amulets. When they turn 17, they have to make a choice. They can either become guardian spirits or continue their lives but as mortals who have forgotten their lives as Daughters. All of the Daughters live in Los Angeles, battling the Atrox and its dark Followers.

Vanessa Cleveland
A blonde Daughter of the Moon and Daughter of Pandora, who stars in Goddess of the Night(Book #1) and Moon Demon (Book #7). As a Daughter of the Moon, she is able to expand her molocules or "invisibility" and sometimes she can move objects while she is invisible. She lives with her mother, a Hollywood costume designer. Her father died when she was five; he was once a stunt man. Quite naturally, she was popular. She tries hard to fit in with everyone, causing an emotional toll. Since her childhood, her best friend is Catty. In high school, she meets Michael Saratoga, one of the hottest guys in her school; they date each other on and off throughout the series. But in book 4, The Secret Scroll, She starts to date Toby, a Regulator, and he wants the Secret Scroll destroyed. He endangers all of the girls, including Vanessa, and at the end he gets killed. In book 7, Vanessa finds out that she is a Daughter of Pandora, not just a Daughter of the Moon. Hector, a moon demon tries to marry her but in the end, she frees him and he dies. Now Vanessa may be a slave to the Atrox.
Serena Killingsworth
Daughter of the Moon and the Key, starring in Into the Cold Fire (Book #2) and Possession (Book #8). Because she is the Key, she is considered to be one of the deciding factors in the fight between the Daughters and the Atrox. Her gift is the power of telepathy or reading minds. After her run-in with the cold fire, she is blessed by the Goddess of the Dark Moon and Sorcery: Hekate. She lives with her father and her brother Collin. Since she actively began her work as a Daughter, her best friend is Jimena. She dates Stanton, Follower and Prince of the Night. Their forbidden love is unstoppable. In book 8, she almost switches bodies with another woman, after she drinks something the woman gave her. Now Serena may be a slave to the Atrox.
Jimena Castillo
Daughter of the Moon and former girl of an LA gang, starring in Night Shade (Book #3) and The Choice (Book #9). She is Mexican and holds the power of premonition, seeing into the future. She lives with her grandmother in an apartment. Her best friend is Serena. She dates Collin, Serena's brother, from the end of book #3 after she puts her past boyfriend's spirit to rest; Veto. She is unknowingly a year older than her friends, what choice will she pick when she turns seventeen? Eventually she chooses to stay mortal, after seeing a premonition of her own death. but what her mentor, Maggie, tells her is that everyone must die in someway to become reborn. She becomes a mortal and completely forgets her like as a Daughter, until later in the series, when it is established that she is the new mentor of the Daughters after Maggie passed away. She cannot free Catty from Nefandus or Vanessa or Serena will be sacrificed in retaliation.
Catty Turner
Daughter of the Moon and heiress to the Secret Scroll, starring in The Secret Scroll (Book #4) and The Prophecy (Book #11). Catty has the power to tavel back and forth through time (chronokinesis). She was abandoned by her birth mother, Zoe Reese, who was a Daughter of the Moon with the powers of telekinesis but became a Follower and Catty was adopted by Kendra Turner who moved to San Diego after Catty disappeared. Her father is a member of the Atrox's inner circle and it is her destiny to destroy the Atrox. Later on, we find out that her destiny and Kyle, a Son of the Dark, intertwine. Kyle is her ex-boyfriend. Chris (also known as Chrysippus) was the Keeper of the Secret Scroll and Catty's ex-boyfriend before she went out with Kyle. Chris is now dead. Her best friend is Vanessa. It is rumored that Catty lives with her father.
Tianna Moore
A girl with the powers of telekinesis and can use that power to go into other demensions, she shows up for the first time in The Lost One (Book #6) and her next book is The Becoming (Book #12). She grew up in foster homes all over LA. Her parents and little sister, Jamie, were killed by Followers when she was a child. The foster mother she lives with is a follower. Her and Catty become best friends. Tianna was created by the Atrox, and that she was born evil but Selene had kidnapped her when she was a baby and had given her to a Daughter who had asked for the change and her mother gave her moon dew so Tianna would be as human as possible. Her destiny is to give birth to the Atrox's child and to destroy. In the last Daughter book (#12) Tianna destroys the Atrox using an enchanment, and, in doing so, destroys herself as well.
Stanton
An LA follower who becomes the prince of the night. He was an invitus, someone who unwillingly came to the Atrox in the 13th Century. He was then royalty, and his father, the prince, was hunting the Atrox and the Atrox took Stanton so the Prince wouldn't look for the Atrox anymore. Vanessa attempemted to free him, and for that act of kindness, he can never hurt her.? He is in love with Serena, their love is foridden but that won't stop them. His book is The Sacrifice (Book #5). In that book, he becomes free at last, but chooses to go back to the Atrox in order to save Serena. In doing this, he is awarded the status of Price of the Night. (Second in command to the Atrox) With that status, he can order the regulators not to hurt Serena. He helps the girls throughout the series because he wants to stay with Serena. He was the one that gave Tianna the sword to bind the Atrox to its shadow.
Maggie Craven
She was the Daughters mentor, born in Athens, Greece. She is an illegitimate child of Zues, and grew up with her father and sister, her mother having disappeared. Eventually her sister became a Follower. While growing up in Athens, she devoted herself to Pandora. She fell in love with a young, handsome soldier named Hector, who later became captured by the Atrox and is veiwed as "the devil." Maggie was the one to bind the Atrox to its shadow form. When she asked to live long enough to see the Atrox destroyed, the Atrox itself granted her wish. She had forgotten to ask for perpetual youth. Yet, Pandora gave her an elixer that would counteract that action. She helped Chriyssipus in the 13th Century. She is ancient and teaches the Daughters on how to control their powers and other things that have to do with them. Her book is The Talisman (Book #10).
Cassandra
A Follower, she was once in love with Stanton. She has the letters S-T-A dug into her chest with a razor blade. But she gets an oppritunity to destroy the Daughters in the third book, and she gets into the Inner Circle for a little while. After she fails the Atrox, she becomes an Outcast. She is on and off throughout the books, causing trouble and such.
Justin and Mason
The two followers who kill Tianna's parents and sister, they went back in time and saved her, not knowing that she was created by the Atrox. In book 12, they become Outcasts and want Tianna to go to the Atrox and ask it to let them back in.
Hector
Maggie's old love, he was Outcasted onto the Moon. In book 7, he comes and tries to destroy the Daughters and marry Vanessa. In the end, Vanessa frees him and he dies.

Book #1: Goddess of the Night
High school sophomore Vanessa and her best friend, Catty, have magical powers. But while Catty sees her ability to time travel as a gift, Vanessa hates her own ability to turn invisible: she "tried to control her molecules, but in times of intense emotion, her molecules had more power than her ability to restrain them and the light from a full moon seemed to fuel their charge." Vanessa wants to date the handsome, long-haired Michael and be like everyone else, but whenever he kisses her, her feet and hands start disappearing. Then Catty turns up missing, and Vanessa's new friend Serena (a mind reader) reveals that they are goddesses, Daughters of the Moon, who must battle the evil Atrox and its dissolute band of "Followers" (from whose souls Atrox has sucked all hope) who haunt the Los Angeles club scene.
Book #2: Into the Cold Fire
The followers of Atrox have set a trap for Serena. Once she enters their cold fire, she will become a follower of the dark. Jimena has actually seen Serena entering the fire, which frightens her a great deal. Serena again must fight Stanton, whom she also battled in the previous book. There seems to be an equally strong physical attraction mixed into their struggle, however, making it hard for either to prevail. Morgan, the Daughters' nemesis from the first book, becomes more than a pest at school when she crosses over to the dark side. Nevertheless the four friends, assisted by the Goddess Hecate, who holds the key to their success, develop a plan and demonstrate again that right can prevail.
Book #3: Night Shade
Jimena was once the toughest chola in East L.A. No longer in a gang, she is still feared by many. Nothing scares Jimena. Nothing, that is, except the reappearance of Veto, who was once the love of her life. That terrifies her, because Veto was killed a year ago by a rival gang. Or was he? Jimena discovers that he has made a devil's bargain, which could cost both of them their lives.
Book #4: The Secret Scroll
Catty has always wanted to find out who her birth mother was, and amazingly enough,she has the power to allow herself to do that.When Catty goes back in time,she not only manages to meet her mother,but she also innherits a secret scroll that is the key to destroying the Atrox once and for all. Catt will have to go head-to-head with the most ancient evil of all time-if she can live that long.
Book #5: The Sacrifice
Stanton, a Follower of the ancient evil called the Atrox, is torn between his love for Serena, one of the moon goddesses, and his urge to destroy her by turning her to the dark forces.
Book #6: The Lost One
After awakening with amnesia and an overwhelming sense of danger, a teenage girl named Tianna discovers that she has the gift of telekinesis and finds out about a long-standing war with the evil Followers of Atrox.
Book #7: Moon Demon
Vanessa's sixteenth birthday is coming up. While most girls would be thrilled at the prospect, Vanessa dreads being one year closer to making the most important decision of her life. Now she is beginning to doubt everything she holds true—her friends, her relationship with Michael, and even her identity. Then she meets Hector, who is more exciting and dangerous than anyone else she knows. Through him, she learns about a side of herself that she never knew existed. . .
Book #8: Possession
Serena hasn't been herself lately. She has been having sudden lapses of memory and acting like a completely different person — one she doesn't like very much. To add to her confusion, she knows that someone has been following her. It all started the night an elderly woman helped her. Now Serena is beginning to wonder, who was that woman? And what has she done to Serena?
Book #9: The Choice
In a reckless attempt to change the future, Catty drops Jimena into her troubled past -- and into dangerous territory for the ex-gang member. As Jimena runs for her life, she is caught by the police and put in jail. There she is further threatened by a new type of Follower with a shape-changing power she is unable to resist. Her only choice is to break out of jail and hide out with a most unlikely ally—her old gang rival, Payasa. Together they have to save the other Daughters of the Moon before Jimena’s most terrifying premonition comes true.
Book #10: The Talisman
As Maggie reflects on the difficulty she will have with her final duty as mentor to the Daughters of the Moon Goddess Selene, she recalls her first battles with the evil Atrox, two thousand years earlier when she was a youth in Athens.
Book #11: The Prophecy
Catty almost has her hands on the Scroll and its power to destroy the Atrox, but time is running out. Anyone who sets foot near the cursed parchment will die, and it's about to go on display at the local art museum. Before Catty can steal it, the Scroll is hand delivered to her by a surprising messenger ... but this gift has strings. In return she must travel to the dark world of Nefandus to finally meet her father, a member of the Atrox's inner circle. There, he awaits her with a tempting proposal. Will Catty succumb to her dark heritage?
Book #12: The Becoming
Lately, Tianna has been feeling unsettled, and she can't understand why -- she has a great boyfriend, good friends, and, for once, a loving foster home. But still, she can't shake the thought that something, or someone, is after her. At a skateboarding competition she runs into two of her most feared enemies, Justin and Mason. Only now, they claim they've come to help Tianna -- to warn her of her becoming. She has no idea what they mean, but deep down, Tianna senses herself changing. She knows that every Daughter has a dark side, but is hers threatening to overtake her?
Book #13:
Book #13 is rumored to come out between fall 2007 and January 2008.
