Date, Hokkaidō

Date (伊達市; -shi) is a city located in Iburi, Hokkaidō, Japan.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 35,468 and the density of 208.33 persons per km². The total area is 170.25 km².

The city was founded on April 1, 1972.

It is accessed by an expressway and has an interchange, the Date Interchange in the north and route 37. The railway station is Date-Mombetsu.

  • Japan tries to avoid multiple cities with the same name in order to prevent administrative mistakes due to confusion. There are only two cases of cities in Japan with the same name:Fuchū in Hiroshima and Tokyo, and Date in Hokkaidō and Fukushima.
