Dat Phan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dat Phan (born January 25, 1975 in Saigon, South Vietnam), is a Vietnamese-American stand-up comedian. When he was a child, he, his mother, and nine other of his siblings immigrated to the United States. They suffered financial hardships throughout his childhood. He grew up in City Heights of San Diego then spent his teenage years in Santee, California, a suburb of San Diego. Critics of Dat Phan often say that he includes his mother too much in his act and relies heavily on his gimmick of talking in a stereotypical Vietnamese accent, but he still retains a large fan base.
In 2003, he entered NBC's reality show, Last Comic Standing. Although not well-liked by the other contestants due to his relative inexperience in professional comedy and his unusual eccentric ways, he overcame many challenges, became a finalist, then eventually won. He has made cameo appearances in Hollywood films such as Cellular and Love is the Drug. He currently resides in San Diego, California.
Dat Phan was voted most successful of his class at his West Hills High School ten year reunion as well as being voted into Grossmont Community College Walk of Fame.
