[edit] Help me
Hello, you used the {{helpme}} tag. How may I help you? When you've asked your question, please put the tag back so we know to check back. Alternatively, you can join the Wikipedia Bootcamp IRC channel to get real-time help. (Use the web-based client to get instant access.)
- I'm confused about image copyrights. I'm trying to get a photo for a certain film, but I'm not sure if I can use it in the article. I was thinking of just plaing the movie in my computer, then using the "print screen" option, then upload it somehow. Is this legal? How else can I obtain film images legally? -Dark Kubrick 00:57, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- If you are wondering about the copyright tags, I believe if you were to add an image about a film, you would use {{movie-screenshot}} which would apply the photo as fair use under the GDFL. Ryūlóng 00:33, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. -Dark Kubrick 00:57, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
We noticed your helpme tag, what can we help you with? ~Kylu (u|t) 02:29, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm a little confused on how to review good article nominees. If I wanted to pass the article, then the page says to remove it from the list, then list it as passed, and then to replace "GA Nominee" on its talk page with simply "GA". To me, this seems a little too quick and easy, as it sounds like almost anyone could pass or fail it. Are there any requirements for the reviewer who is passing or failing the article (besides the obvious, like reading the article)? If you pass it, do you have to list several sound and good reasons for passing or failing it, or just simply add it to the GA page (the nominee page says nothing on that)? Thanks.
- WP:GA tells more, obviously, but I think this might help more: Wikipedia:What is a good article? Take care! ~Kylu (u|t) 03:01, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
No, I mean how do you review and help pass or fail good articles? Is it true that all you really have to do is use a copy/paste editing tool? Are there any examples of this?
[edit] Image tagging for Image:Vlcsnap-69033.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Vlcsnap-69033.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Jaws
DK- I massively reorganized the article on Jaws while you were also working on it. I tried to incorporate your changes, but if something got erased, I apologize. --Geoduck 05:08, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Darryl, the page is really offset now with a huge gap at the top. Don't know if you noticed it or not, so I thought I'd message you as you are the main contributor. --DerekDD
- Dark Kubrick -- I got your note about passive voice; sorry about the delay in replying. I don't think the article suffers much from that; it's a standard way to approach narration of an article and I think it's under the perceptual radar of most readers. The GA nom came close; I think you can get it over the hurdle. I'll post some more specific examples on the talk page. Mike Christie 02:02, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Alien
I saw you removed a section from Alien about the similarities with It! The Terror from Beyond Space. I didn't quite understand your reasons for this - did you think it was too tangential? Or too long?
It! is clearly seminal and a fan of Alien will have great fun watching It! It would seem to me shame not to mention it at all. Note also on the talk page that two other users felt there should be a mention of It!.
BTW, I didn't quite understand your note; sometime "It" will be incorporated into the article - did you mean that there should be a mention but not there? Or not now? Or what? --Oscar Bravo 08:46, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- I added a reply to your message on my Talk Page.--Oscar Bravo 07:38, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jango Fett
I reverted your image addition to Jango Fett because you blanked the last half of the page. It was the easiest way to fix the damage, so go ahead and reinsert your image. It was lovely. :-)
Are you using Firefox with the Google Toolbar? If so, the known bug that blanks the bottom half or so of WP pages is probably what got you. It's happening to a lot of editors and it even got me once, too, so I uninstalled the Toolbar.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know what was up with my edit, so you wouldn't think I was some wacko with Jango Fett issues or something. See you around - Baseball,Baby! balls•strikes 06:48, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yep, I'll bet that's the problem. I'm in the #vandalism-en-wp IRC channel, and that's why I beat you to the fix. The channel is amazingly fast on recent changes. If I make an edit that shows up on the IRC channel like that one (both our edits showed up in IRC because it was a large blanking/addition of characters), I'll see it in IRC before the browser even refreshes after the "save" button is pressed. It's very weird. It's been a rather interesting night in CVU, so I'll get back to it - take care! Baseball,Baby! balls•strikes 07:00, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'll drop this here since they are related in a way. Your edit to Boba Fett removed all the categories from the page, along with other templates that link to other wiki's. I reverted the change, and I ask that you please be more careful when editing. KOS | talk 18:21, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ref problem
I'm not sure if you got a full answer on the porblem you were having with the PHP reference tags getting hosed up. Someone else at the help desk suggeted adding '?action=purge' to the URL at the top of the screen when you're on the article with the bad references. This apparently clears an internal cache of the page. It does seem to work 100% of the time on pages of mine that are having the same problem. Please let me know if I can explain it better. [edit] Raiders of the Lost Ark
Hello there, in case you're wondering I've greatly expanded the Raiders article with references from the official site. Wiki-newbie 13:27, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jaws
Well done on getting it to FA. Yomanganitalk 17:07, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Okay, I don´t know very well how to talk to you: Here´s my point. I love Jaws, and I think it´s wikipage it´s great. But... I also think Brody´s fear is very important. Here´s why: It´s a movie about fear. The shark is how that fear comes to life, but not the hunter or the expert can destroy the animal. The one who gets the job done is the cop who´s terrified of the water. Spielberg is obsessed with fear, and the last line in the movie shows it "I used to hate the water" "I can´t imagine why..."
Actually, given all your research for Jaws and your wikiaward (congratulations by the way)I´m surprised you don´t think this is important. You make a reference about aquaphobia. If it´s not important why do you mention it? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jaws Rider (talk • contribs).
Congrats on the FA for Jaws; lots of hard work on your part, and nice to see it pay off. Mike Christie (talk) 19:27, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
I agree with you: Maybe Brody´s aquaphobia should be in a themes section of the movie. Actually, I think it´s a great idea. The movie has plenty of themes like guilt, phobia and moral. And it´s true: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia ;) Jaws Rider
Good on you mate! Hope we can work sometime together on Raiders and LOTR! Wiki-newbie 12:02, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Indiana Jones
Thanks man, I feel Raiders is worthy of GA right now but it needs references, my biggest vice. I have the Empire issue by the way, so I may start including references from there. Wiki-newbie 14:15, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jaws Trivia
Why did you take out the triva section in the Jaws article? You didn't give any reasons and I would like to know why. Bcody 21:15, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- Trivia sections tend not to go down too well in peer reviews. I doubt the article would've reached FA status with it: and there's a link to IMDb for all that stuff anyway.
btw, DK, I came here beause I've just noticed you've referenced me in the article! lol The JPStalk to me 11:49, 15 September 2006 (UTC)- Yup -- it's the one you use for the Hitchcockian reference. The JPStalk to me 19:50, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Alien
Hello. Thanks for helping clean up the Alien article, but why did you remove the {{toomuchtrivia}} and {{references}} tags from the Trivia section? These problems still need to be taken care of. - Zepheus <ツィフィアス> 16:12, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Hey man, just wondering a few things.
1) How did you get your own sandboxes? 2) Can you come have a look at The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, which became GA recently, tell me what you think, and maybe even add a few images?
Thanks. Wiki-newbie 19:32, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Lord of the Rings images
Thing is mate, I'm unsure of how many production images would be suitable given the size of the trilogy. But this would be neat to upload: http://www.theonering.net/scrapbook/view/9120 within the Releases section for the trilogy article. In other ways, I think dumping from the DVD Appendices would be cool to see how it goes. Wiki-newbie 18:02, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, I just suggested that one. But for FotR article, could you upload the Hobbits hiding under the Ringwraith, and for RotK article could you upload the Hobbits reaction to being bowed too? That'd be cool, considering that was their beginning and end of Principal Photography. I'm currently hoping to get RotK featured and I'd like an Oscar picture of Jackson and his friends accepting Best Picture. That'd be appreciated. Wiki-newbie 08:41, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
It's nice you uploaded those two, and certainly because I've learnt to store Internet stuff in 'My Pictures' and uploading them from there, I won't be asking too much. But the films certainly have great quality images and the DVDs have some great diagrams. But thank you. Lastly, what would you say is the ideal size for the article? I'm just writing 'thumb'.
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Amity Island.JPG)
Thanks for uploading Image:Amity Island.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Image problem
Hey there, I got a quick question. I've been trying out the Upload file, but for some reason when I click upload, nothing happens. How come? Wiki-newbie 21:43, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
OK, this time the file is corrupt. Tell me what's wrong if I upload one of my own Microsoft Word pictures? It's this one from Transformers film.[1] Wiki-newbie 16:38, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
Wooo! Man, I uploaded my first image! Transformers (2007 film)#Transformers on screen. Wicked. Still, how are you coming along with Rings? Oh, and Alien seems coming along nicely. Wiki-newbie 16:44, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] JAWS page
Dark Kubrik--You've created quite a resolute and thorough article. However, being this is a wiki, I have added items of fact that are relevant to this page (and sublinks) in the way of links and factual data. I am new to Wikipedia but my data is accurate. I also added a footnote as to Lorraine Gary being the wife of Sid Sheinberg, as well as the fact Sheinberg introduced Spielberg to the film business, but both items were deleted. Please explain why you, and/or your current contributers persist in deleting or reverting my added data without justifiable rationale.
Thankyou. Fred-stine 07:32, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- Because that information is perhaps more appropriate to the Lorraine Gary and Sid Sheinberg articles, unless it was incorporated in such a way that it was directly applicable to the production of Jaws. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, and the more trivial elements need to be excluded from articles. I have left a note on your talk page directing you to our policy about external links, which indicates that we do not link to forums. The JPStalk to me 11:34, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi Dark Kubrick, I've reinstated the "Jaws in 30 seconds, re-enacted by bunnies" external link which I see you removed earlier. I initially added it because it's very funny and to the point. I reinstated it because no reason was given for its removal. If you think it shouldn't be in the article, could you state a reason? By the way: I do assure you I'm quite easy-going if things are made clear. What does annoy me is when thing are done without a reason being given. Cheers, A bit iffy 21:49, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- DK, thanks for the response. I agree that articles often get bloated with irrelevant stuff - another thing taht annoys me. In this case, I think the parody is so funny simply because, like all good parodies, it highlights the most memorable and essential elements of the film. However, it's probably not central to an understanding of the film, so I've cut it again! Cheers, A bit iffy 08:34, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Episode IV FAC
Could you elaborate on this comment you left? "The paragraph that talks about Kurosawa's influence in Cinematic + Literary Allusions has a couple mistakes." What exactly do you mean by mistakes? Thanks. ;) The Filmaker 04:12, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] E.T. image request
I've done some searching for it, but I can't find it, so I'm requesting that if you have the film on DVD, could you make an image of E.T. appearing out of the van with his white cloth and glowing heart. I need it to illustrate the whole E.T./Jesus allegory discussion. Thanks. Wiki-newbie 15:36, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Rings image requests
Hello mate, Alien is coming along well. I have new image requests for The Lord of the Rings, regarding cast images. If you be so kind as to:
- Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas and Gimli striding into Meduseld. Gandalf still wears his grey cloak.
- Gandalf, Aragorn, Eomer, Legolas, Theoden on on top of the hill where they see Mordor at the distance. I look forward to seeing which picture works better for The Two Towers cast section.
- At the Grey Havens, with Frodo, Sam, Bilbo, Merry, Pippin and Gandalf seeing the harbour for the first time. This would work for The Return of the King.

[edit] Memento
Wow, that was fast. Thank you. I think the middle pictures works best for The Two Towers. Yeah, I noticed your work on Memento. Great film, not Nolan's debut but the film that certainly put the Batman beginner on the map.
Just curious, I noticed since Jaws you work on an article for a while and then leave it. Do you think there will be another you pull full steam ahead for? I mean 2001 is your favourite.Wiki-newbie 10:08, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Outside Opinion Requested: Children of Men
Hi! I was hoping to enlist your assistance in resolving a difference in edits for the article for the movie, Children_of_Men. The differences in edits is relatively minor but contentious, with low-level edit-warring back and forth replacing one version, then the other. It has even resulted in one of the parties being reported for 3RR violations. And of course, it has strained civility to the breaking point. A third voice (preferably someone who has seen the movie, but not vital) is needed. A request for editor review was requested before from two other editors, without response. I would suggest taking a look at the key points as they have been debated on the discussion page, but the debate has gone on for...quite a bit. If you will permit me, the two edits take place in the synopsis, viewed by their diff here.
- One side of the debate (indicated by the linked edit on the left) argues that statements and sounds heard at the end of the film (the sounds of children laughing and playing and the words Shantih, Shantih, Shantih appearing on the screen at the very end) were not specifically part of the synopsis as it was no more a part of the "storyworld" than the credits or specifcally thematic components. This pov statees that the components are solely thematic, and should be only be mentioned in the Themes header of the article.
- The other side of the debate (indicated by the linked edit on the right) argues that these same statements, by the very fact that they were observable portions of the film should be a part of the synopsis, in keeping with the definition of the word, further reasoning that casual visitors want an accurate depiction of what was on the screen for the film's duration, allowing for any thematic discussion of the synopsis to take place in the Themes section, either in brief or in depth.
I thank you for taking the time to read this request, and I hope you can assist us in finding a compromise.Arcayne 15:39, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
