[edit] An advertisement worked in?
I don't know if it is just me but the section "Other Sanctuaries"" reads more like an advertisement than an encyclopedic description. I don't own the plugin so I can't comment on its accuracy but if someone who does could rewrite it in a more neutral way it would read as much more proffesional. Waqcku 18:27, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
I edited it to seem more neutral. Waqcku 22:32, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] The Gray Prince
- I removed the comment about the Gray Prince's death being seen as murder under certain conditions. When this happens, the Gray Prince is completely neutral toward the player character, and even though he asks to be killed, nobody else hears, and the player character initiates the hostility. This makes the event no different to any other murder, and I don't think it's worth mentioning specifically. If the information is to be added, it needs re-wording, and possibly a spoiler warning. [edit] Origins of the Dark Brotherhood
Okay, I'm confused. The article says the DB split from the Morag Tong, but the Oblivion in-game book, "Sacred Witness: A True History of the Night Mother," says that the DB split from the Thieves' Guild when some members, including the Night Mother, wanted a branch of the Thieves' Guild devoted to murder, but the Thieves' Guild wouldn't have it. Here's the relevant part (The Night Mother is the speaker):
- "'I was a thief, long, long ago, back when the Thieves Guild was only beginning. It's such a bother to sneak around a house when performing a burglary, and many of us found it most efficacious to strangle the occupant of the house. Just for convenience. I suggested to the Guild that a segment of our order be dedicated to the arts and sciences of murder.
- "'It did not seem like such a controversial idea to me,' the Night Mother shrugged. 'We had specialists in catburglary, pick-pocketing, lock-picking, fencing, all the other essential parts of the job. But the Guild thought that encouraging murder would be bad for business. Too much, too much, they argued.'"
The problem is, I've yet to do the DB storyline in Oblivion, so I don't know if it claims the DB came from the Morag Tong or the Thieves' Guild and if I should change it. Could someone one who has please check this out? Lorus 03:29, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
I believe they're Tong. I completed the Morag Tong questline in Morrowind and remember Eno Hlaalu calling them a splinter faction.
[edit] Silencers
I removed the comment that Silencers are not bound by the Five Tenets. When the player (as a Silencer) performs the ritual of Purification, it is the ritual itself which is exempt, rather than the Silencer. Lord ignus 22:13, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

- Fairly certain Lord Ignus is right. I have a character that has attained the rank of Silencer, so I'll double-check. Umlautbob 00:55, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- Reading a copy of the game guide, I find that the claim that Silencers are not bound by the Five Tenets must be true-you are duped into killing no less than five members of the Brotherhood, including Ungolim, the Listener! Haven't gone so far as to re-edit it yet. After you finish that portion of the plotline, there aren't that many Brotherhood members to kill, making it hard to test if the Tenets are re-applied after that. - Umlautbob, you said it yourself, the player as a silencer is duped into killing the other Brotherhood members - surely the Tenets do not apply if the Brotherhood member does not know he is breaking them. Lord ignus 14:33, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
- It doesn't work that way at all. If you kill a guildmate in another guild without realizing it, you're still out. Hell, if it's a pure accident, you're still out. Ignorance of the law is no excuse and all that. Umlautbob 03:01, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- But what if he's taking a direct order from his superior? I'm not saying that you're wrong, I'm just not convinced either way. I think we just need some official first-party confirmation. Lord ignus 23:44, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Links with literature?
I have never heard of this series of books (and I searched for it on google) or heard this theory anywhere else but here so I deleted this section. If anyone has heard of this please revert, but I don't think that it's relevant. 71.233.46.116 23:36, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sithis deity status?
The article contradicts itself... the first mention of Sithis is as a "Serpent God of Death", whereas the article - correctly - states later that he is not in fact a God. In fact, if anything the game seems to be quite deliberate in leaving his exact nature questionable - though, it seems not unreasonable to conclude that he's neither aedra or daedra. So... the question becomes, why initially reference him as a God? Is there some mention of him as a god?
