[edit] Dart's past
Dart is the son of Zieg and Claire Feld. When Dart was five years old and living with his parents, his hometown of Neet was attacked by a mysterious figure known only as the Black Monster. This dark entity appears every 108 years when the Moon That Never Sets glows red, signifying that a Moon Child will descend and give "holy" bliss to the world of Endiness. Dart and his parents fled the burning village, but his father chose to go back and fight the figure, embracing his mother for the last time and telling her to take care of their son. Dart's mother told him that his father was a great fighter, and she went back with him to fight for Neet, leaving Dart alone. The next day, Dart found a shining memento that once belonged to his father --this object turned out to be the Red-Eyed Dragoon Spirit.
[edit] 13 Years Later
Leaving his new village of Seles, his mind set on getting revenge on the Black Monster, Dart traveled around the world alongside Master Haschel of the Rouge School of Martial Arts, who is looking for his daughter, Claire. Claire is also Darts mother. Though they never say so in the game they do make many references to this fact.

[edit] Chapter 1 - The Serdian War
In the time that the game takes place (which happens five years after Dart and Haschel are unable to locate the Black Monster), we first see Dart reading what appears to be a newspaper about the Serdian War between King Albert's Duchy of Basil and Emperor Doel's Imperial Sandora. He hears a stampede of Sandora Soldiers and the Green-Tusked Dragon Feyrbrand. As Dart's life is in danger, he is saved by a swordswoman who tells him that the soldiers he had seen were headed toward his hometown, Seles. When he arrives, he witnesses soldiers attacking an innocent villager and fights and defeats them. The villager uses his last words to tell him to rescue Dart's childhood friend, Shana. Dart then meets up with Plos, the mayor of Seles, who tells Dart that Shana was captured by a mysterious hooded man. Seconds later, a Sandoria Commander appears and tells them that Shana was taken into custody at Hellena Prison. Dart defeats the Commander in the first boss battle of the game.
Ready to make a journey to Hellena to rescue Shana, Master Tasman stops Dart and gives him a reminder of how to fight using Additions, Counterattacking, obtaining Additions and Guarding.
After his lessons he goes through a Forest on his way to Hellena. While in Hellena, he meets Sir Lavitz Slambert, head of the First Knighthood of Basil. After they fight off guards, they rescue Shana. On their way out, the trio battle Fruegel--the Head Warden of Hellena Prison, and escape into a Prairie. There, Shana heals Lavitz, and Dart tells the two about his tragic past, involving what he thought was the death of his parents at the hands of a mysterious "Black Monster."
Feeling rested from their perilous journey so far, the trio head for Indels Castle in Bale. While travelling through the Limestone Cave--the last location before Bale--the three heroes must battle Urobolus, a giant, poisonous snake who guards the cave. Presuming the snake defeated, the group is surprised when it rises again and strikes at Shana. A mysterious light emanates from Shana's forehead and drives Urobolus away. She starts to feel faint but insists she can continue on.
Afterwards, they finally reach Indels Castle, where they meet King Albert and Minister Noish, who hold information about many things about Endiness. When Dart asks him about the Black Monster, the only thing Noish knows is that the monster is a "devil" who devours a "god." The three learn about the Dragon Campaign, an ancient war between Humans and the powerful race of Winglies. At the end of the war, the Humans emerged victorious and "acquired the future." After a war briefing, Lavitz tells Dart and Shana about the Sandora's plan to use Feyrbrand to attack Hoax, a major stronghold in the duchy of Basil. Dart and Shana, no longer wanting to see anymore pointless bloodshed, decide to head with him to Hoax to end the civil war. Before they leave, Sir Lavitz suggests that the group visit his mother. By doing so, the two learn more about their new friend, and Dart develops a special bond with Lavitz.
Soon after, they leave Bale for the town of Hoax, which resembles a fortress. They meet Sir Kaiser, head of the Eighth Knighthood and discuss a battle plan for dealing with the coming forces. Leaving Shana behind to ensure her safety, Dart and Lavitz fight the Sandorian soldiers who invade Hoax. The enemies consist of two Sandora Soldiers, a Sandora Elite (who can create two images of himself but can be attacked by multiplying attack items), and a Giganto warrior known as Kongol. When Dart is about to deliver the final blow, Kongol counters and attempts to kill him. Just then, the swordswoman who had saved Dart from Feyrbrand appears in Dragoon form and awakens the Red-Eyed Dragoon Spirit. In an odd transformation, Dart stuns Kongol and is told by the warrior that he is a Dragoon and that her name is Rose. Rose and Shana do not get along well at first, but when Dart tells Shana that Rose is the one who saved him, Shana apologizes, and Rose forgives her--she is used to being detested.
Dart decides that they must make their way to Feyrbrand's nest to defeat the troublesome dragon once and for all. Before they leave, Rose teaches Dart how to fight as a Dragoon. First the player must execute an Addition to accumulate more Spirit Points (SP). Once the SP meter is full, the player will transform into a Dragoon by selecting the Dragoon icon that appears on the command center. When the player chooses D-Attack, they must press the X button five times in a row to get a "perfect". When the player chooses D-Magic (which is the only way to spend your MP), he/she will execute a Dragoon Spell. The first and only Magic Dart is equipped with is Flameshot.
Dart takes a detour to another fortress, where the Sandorian forces are quickly overtaking the few soldiers of Basil. The group wipes out the rest of the enemy and surveys the losses. Saying a quick prayer for the fallen, Dart and company head towards a hot volcano.
Inside the Volcano Villude, Dart's friend, Shana, feels something calling to her and finds a Virage, a remnant living weapon from the Dragon Campaign. Dart protects her by fighting it and delivers the final blow. In the depths of the Vilude they encounter Dabas, a quirky merchant from the Commercial Town of Lohan. Continuing on their way, they are ambushed by the Fire Bird but defeat it with their Dragoon Spirits.
At the Dragon's Nest, they find Feyrbrand along with a man named Greham. Greham explains to Lavitz that he is the one who fought alongside his father Servi, but had betrayed him and ended his life. At the beginning of the struggle, Greham activates the Jade Dragoon Spirit and proves a worthy adversary. The four heroes fight both the dragon Feyrbrand and Greham, and Lavitz delivers the final blow. Defeated, Greham realizes the error of his ways and apologizes to Lavitz, yielding the Jade Dragoon Spirit to him.
Shortly after, Shana is found to be inflicted with dragon's poison. Determined to save his friend's life, Dart carries her to Lohan and hears about the Dragoni Plant from the doctor, but nobody knows where it grows. Dart, Lavitz, and Rose go back to the Dragon's Nest to find a solution, and they discover a way to a beautiful shrine. There, they face Drake the Bandit, the protector of Shirley's Shrine. After the battle, the spirit of Shirley appears and tests their hearts by transforming into the people they know and love. For Dart, she is Shana. She asks him about what is most important to him, Shana or the Black Monster. Dart responds "Shana," and she deems him worthy. After the test, Shirley gives them the White-Silver Dragoon Spirit to heal Shana.
When they give her the spirit, Shana becomes a Dragoon and fully recovers.
After they return, the doctor tells Dart that it is time for the Hero Competition, a tournament that determines "The Strongest Under the Stars." At the arena, Dart signs up, but the others refuse to participate with him. Lavitz advises him NOT to transform into a Dragoon, because doing so would cause a big commotion.
During the tournament he is reunited with Haschel, his companion of four years ago. The two fight various opponents. Dart faces Gongola, a cheater who uses poison at the start of Round 1; Serfius, a honorable warrior at Round 2; Danton, a slow but strong fighter with a gigantic hammer for a weapon at Round 3; and Atlow, an archer who uses piercing arrows in the semi-finals. When the semi-finals were over, Haschel told Dart that he had lost to a magnificent swordsman named Lloyd. The platinum-haired fighter appears and dedicates the Finals to what fate has in store for him and Dart in the future. Lloyd makes quick work of Dart after a short struggle.
The tournament over, Lavitz convinces Dart to go on a "date" with Shana, and is given three tickets to play a variety of mini games. The two get a chance to talk alone. At this point, Hashel joins the quartet, still set on finding his daughter, Claire.
When the group reunites, Lavitz says that the group must go back to Indels Castle to report the death of Feyrbrand. However, on their way out they encounter a dying soldier who relays to them that King Albert has been kidnapped and is being held at Hellena. Lavitz is deeply angered and he, Shana, Dart, Rose and Haschel travel to the Sandora prison. Soon after infiltrating Hellena, the heroes fall into a trap and encounter the man-eating beast Jiango. After defeating the monster, Shana discovers a way out of the pit and they make their way up to the top of the prison. Once there, they notice the head prison warden, Fruegel, is preparing to behead King Albert. Lavitz stops him and the party is forced to battle Fruegel along with Guftas and Rodriguez, two vicious beasts.
After Fruegel is killed, Lloyd, the silver-haired swordsman who had defeated Dart in the Hero Competition, appears. Quickly, he reaches into Albert's back and pulls out a glowing, round gemstone. An enraged Lavitz transforms into a Dragoon and jumps out to save his king, but Lloyd counters him and stabs him with a magic sword. Dart rushes to help his friend, but Lloyd escapes. As Lavitz's life slips away, he passes the Jade Dragoon Spirit to King Albert and says a final goodbye to his friends.
Leaving Hellena, the group is saddened by the loss of their comrade but realize they must end the war to prevent more needless loss of life. They regroup in Seles and plan their next action. Albert, who has now joined the party, tells them about the object that Lloyd took from him- the Moon Gem, a divine object that rests within the bodies of all the rightful kings of Serdio. He tells them they must go to Kazas, the Black Castle, and defeat Emperor Doel, the leader of the Sandora Empire and Albert's uncle.
Once there, they meet up with a small resistance group whose leader is a small boy named Popo. The child tests Dart's loyalty and deems him to be worthy to pass into the castle's secret passage. Dart, Shana, Rose, Haschel and Albert infiltrate the castle and fight their way up to a room where scientists are conducting an experiment. One of the scientists gives Dart some Magic Oil, which was used to operate the lifts in the castle. Exploring the building, they come across a Red Stone and pocket it for later. Then they come to a room where a mad scientist, Mr. Magi, threatens to transform into a horrible beast in order to defeat the party. As Dart and friends prepare to fight, Mr. Magi downs a concoction and transforms- into a barking dog. After the hilarious scene Dart picks up a Blue Stone. Continuing on their way, the group runs into the Commander of the Sandora Knights. The Knight tells them that Emperor Doel has gone mad and he pleads for them to stop him before something terrible happens. To help them out, the Knight gives them a Yellow Stone.
Three stones in hand, Dart, Shana, Rose, Albert and Haschel enter a room with a giant statue of a goddess. They place the stones into slots on a dais and it opens the way to the throne room, at the top of the statue. Making their way up to Doel, they are stopped by Kongol, the Giganto warrior who had tried to kill Dart and Lavitz back in Hoax. After a tough battle, Kongol gives up and asks Dart to end his life. When Dart refuses to honor his request, Kongol is left confused. The party enter the throne room and prepare to confront Emperor Doel.
In the throne room, Albert tries to convince Doel to help him end the Serdian war once and for all, but Doel is still determined to take over the country. He then reveals that he was the one who murdered Carlos, the previous king, when Albert was a child. Angered by this revelation, Albert and the party prepare to take Doel down. Before the battle starts, Doel takes the Violet Dragoon Spirit and transforms into a powerful boss. The party struggle greatly against the mighty emperor, but are victorious. Before Doel dies, he tells the party about Lloyd, who was behind Shana's kidnapping, and that they should travel to Tiberoa to chase him down. With his final breath, he yields the Violet Dragoon Spirit and it chooses Haschel as its next bearer. The group leave the castle and head to the city of Fletz.
[edit] Chapter 2: Platinum Shadow
Dart and his friends enter the magnificent city of Fletz, the city that loves stars. There, they see a scene with Princess Emille, one of the beautiful princesses of Fletz. The princess is very nasty to her subjects, even insulting a pregnant woman, and King Albert is shocked. The residents lament the new behavior of the princess, as she used to be a kinder, sweeter person.
The group enters a bar, where they are met with a loud-mouthed, talkative girl named Kaffi. When Dart asks her about Lloyd, she tells them to see the city's astronomer, Fester. Once it gets dark in the city, they enter the observatory and Shana gets Fester's attention. They learn more about the Moon that Never Sets and Fester mentions the Black Monster. After the explanation, Fester tells them that he also acts as governor to Princess Lisa, and that he must go to the castle. Dart, Shana, Haschel, Rose and Albert all leave the observatory, wondering where they will stay for the night. They enter a house where a man named Nello, the leader of the Green Project (dedicated to bringing plant life to the nation), invites them to stay. Albert is interested in hearing about Nello's plans, so they spend all night talking.
The next morning, the party heads to the Barrens in search of Lloyd. While traveling, they are ambushed by a bandit named Mappi, leader of the Gehrich Gang. After defeating the bandit, Mappi tricks Dart into letting his guard down and steals his Red-Eye Dragoon Spirit. In hot pursuit, the heroes rush to the city of Donau, a city filled with flowers. However, they quickly learn that the city is under siege by the Gehrich Gang. While exploring the city, they meet a woman named Kate whose fiancé Lynn is missing. She gives them a letter that Lynn wrote telling her that he went to convince the gang not to harass the city anymore, then tells them that Lynn's father, the Mayor, should be able to help. The group head to the Mayor's home, and upon learning that his son is missing he sends them to the Valley of Corrupted Gravity, beyond which was the hideout of the Gehrich Gang.
When the group goes to leave the city, they come across a sore young lady who is confronting a bandit. The girl scares the bandits off with her giant mallet. She then introduces herself to the party as Meru, "the best dancer in Donau". When Dart tells her they are going to rescue Lynn, she lets the party know that they need a pass from the Tiberoan king in order to gain access to the Valley of Corrupted Gravity. Meru then joins the party and they head back to Fletz.
In Fletz, the party has trouble entering the castle. However, since Princess Lisa found out that King Albert is traveling with them, they are able to enter. She tells them about Princess Emille, who fell off a horse and hit her head six months ago and was never the same again. They also learn that Emille's Coming of Age ceremony is soon, and that the Moon Dagger, the Tiberoan national treasure, is going to be passed to her on that date. That night, after an embarrassing feast in which Princess Emille eats most of the food, Rose lets Dart know how important it is to get the Dragoon spirit back, and Haschel talks to Meru about his daughter, Claire. The next morning, they head for the Valley.
While in the confusing and disorienting Valley, Shana discovers another Virage, this time larger and fiercer. After defeating it, the mysterious light reappears on Shana's head, finishing the Virage off, and everyone is puzzled.
They exit the Valley and enter the Home of the Gigantos; the Gehrich Gang's hideout. After navigating dangerous traps, the group is ambushed by a group of bandits. After talking to the bandits Haschel realizes that the leader of the gang, Gehrich, is the same Gehrich who was kicked out of his Rouge school 20 years ago. The party encounters a large door, but Haschel makes quick work of the door with a special martial arts move. After he breaks down the door, Haschel complains that he hurt his back and Dart, Rose and Albert decide to rest a while in a nearby cave before entering the bandits' headquarters. Meru opts to stay with Haschel in case more bandits attacked them, but Haschel knocks her out and runs past the broken door. Dart, Albert and Rose all return and rush in with Meru to help Haschel.
Inside the chamber, the four heroes find Haschel ready to fight the gang's boss, Gehrich, and Mappi, his subordinate. After a tough battle, Haschel finishes Gehrich off by knocking him into a statue. The chamber begins to fall apart after an enraged Mappi, with the last ounce of his strength, drops a large column on the group. Just as they prepare for impact, they discover that Kongol, the Giganto who fought against them in the Black Castle, has stopped the column from crushing them. After they are safe, Kongol tells them that he saved them because he no longer considers them his enemies. The Giganto explains that when he was a child, Emperor Doel rescued him from Humans and that he would always serve a strong leader. Considering Dart a strong leader, he joins the party.
Meanwhile, Gehrich tells Haschel with his last breath that Princess Emille is a fake, and that the real princess is hidden somewhere in the castle. He dies and Haschel goes to bury him while Rose, Dart, Kongol, Meru and Albert search for Lynn and the Dragoon Spirit. Both in tow, they return to the city of Donau where Kate's and Lynn's wedding finally takes place. After the happy couple steps out of the chapel, Kate throws her bouquet and Shana catches it. Following a happy farewell, the party return to Fletz to find the real Princess Emille. Upon arriving, they find out that the Coming of Age ceremony is starting. Quickly, they enter the castle and find that it is full of bandits pretending to be Knights of Tiberoa. The group sneaks their way into Princess Lisa's room, and she tells them to go to Princess Emille's room. Once there, they search for clues and discover a weird room hidden inside a painting where the real Emille sleeps. Albert rouses her from her slumber and they all hurry to the Sun Chamber, where the ceremony is taking place. Once there, the fake Emille has already obtained the Moon Dagger, and reveals herself to be Lenus, a silver-haired Wingly female. She engages them in a fierce and difficult battle, but escapes out of the window, telling them she is returning to her "lover". King Zior learns of the deception and allows them to use the Queen Fury, a large battleship, to chase after Lenus. Before they leave King Zior tells them that the Moon Dagger and Moon Gem were objects that the surviving Winglies gave to Humans as a peace offering after they lost the Dragon Campaign.
While on the ocean, Dart has a chance to speak with the members of his team and develop stronger relationships with them, particularly with Shana. During the night the Queen Fury encounters a phantom ship, which collides with it and causes damage. Shana feels drawn to the vessel and wanders onboard. Dart notices she is missing and alerts the others. On the ship are many ghouls and malicious spirits that attack the party, including a Magician Bogey. After many encounters the Bogey drops a key which allows access to a locked room. Inside the room are an undead ship's captain and some ghostly soldiers who claim that the Black Monster killed "Princess Louvia". Dart and his friends put the spirits to rest by defeating them. After the battle the team enter another room where they discover the ghost of a nursemaid, weeping over a baby carriage and mourning the loss of "Princess Louvia". The nursemaid looks up at Shana and calls her "Princess Louvia" before disappearing, but Shana and friends are confused.
Just then, the ship begins to shudder and shake, and they realize the phantom ship is going down. They all rush to the Queen Fury, but Rose and Dart lag behind. As Meru cries out for them to jump onboard, the ship finally sinks, taking Dart and Rose with it.
In a dark cave on an island, Rose thinks about Dart and Zieg and about how closely connected they seem. She keeps watch while Dart sleeps with his head in her lap. The next morning a dog wanders into the cave and a boy named Pete follows him. Pete leads Dart and Rose to Lideria village, where they meet Pete's ma. They learn she is sick and needs to travel to Fueno, the closest city, but is unable to because of the dangerous monsters lurking in the Undersea Cave. Rose and Dart agree to help them get through the cave, and they fight their way to Fueno. In the city, Dart and Rose are reunited with Albert, Shana, Meru, Haschel and Kongol, and Pete takes his mother to the clinic to get medicine. After they catch up on what's happened Dart speaks to Commodore Puler, the captain of the Queen Fury. He tells them that Lenus may be at Prison Island, which can be found by fully draining the Undersea Cavern. After returning back to Lideria, Dart and friends get permission to drain the cave, and they make their way to Lenus.
When they find Lenus, she gives the Moon Dagger to Lloyd, her "lover". After Lloyd makes an escape, Lenus transforms into the Blue Sea Dragoon and calls the dragon Regole to assist her in battle. After a tough fight, Lenus and the dragon are defeated, and she gives up the spirit to Meru, who seems sad that Lenus is now dead. Now that the Moon Dagger is in Lloyd's hands, the party are more determined than ever to find him.
For now, they return to Fletz, where King Zior welcomes them with a party. Dart searches for Shana during the party, and speaks to all his team members in order to find her. Rose points him to the balcony, where Shana is dressed in a beautiful gown. The pair witness a shooting star and wish for the same thing, making it come true with a kiss.
[edit] Chapter 3 - Fate and Soul
Dart, Shana, Meru, Haschel, Kongol, Albert and Rose now find themselves in the water city of Furni in the country of Mille Sessau. There is trouble afoot, however, as they learn that Kamuy, a wolf who was once a pet of a Furnian child named Teo, attacked the Mayor's daughter, Fa, robbing her of her ability to speak. The whole town is concerned that Teo has disappeared into the Evergreen Forest after Kamuy, and a warrant with a cash prize has been posted, drawing warriors from all around.
Dart quickly learns that they need a license to navigate the city by boat, and after obtaining it they visit the Mayor's home and learn more about Teo, Kamuy and Fa. That night, Shana sings a lullaby to Fa, and Haschel remembers it as the same lullaby his daughter had composed years ago. After Fa falls asleep, Dart and Shana spend a moment together underneath the Moon that Never Sets, but Shana falls ill. The next morning she is fine.
The party heads to the Evergreen Forest, where they opt to take a detour and encounter Kamuy. After defeating the savage wolf, it returns back to normal with the help of Shana's White Silver Dragoon magic and Teo is overjoyed. The team heads to the city of Deningrad, but Rose pardons herself and says she must make a stop. Meru sneaks away as well, saying that she has an errand to run. The two females leave the party and the rest enter the crystal city of Deningrad.
In Deningrad, they meet with High Priest Bishop Dille, and learn the story of the Divine Tree of Soa, which gave birth to all 108 species in the world and is protected by the Wingly-created Signets. After the story, Dille suggests they visit the library and talk to Librarian Ute to learn even more. In the library, which Albert is happy to visit, the group gathers more information about the Dragon Campaign, Winglies, Dragons and Dragoons, the Serdian war, and the Divine Moon Objects. The most important piece of information was about the terrible Wingly leader Melbu Frahma, who abused his power and caused unbalance in the world, prompting the humans to strike back and decimate the Winglies.
Soon after they amass this information, Deningrad is suddenly attacked by a horrible beast called the Divine Dragon. After the assault, the party goes to the crystal castle, where they meet Queen Theresa and her daughters, Sacred Sisters Miranda, Setie and Luanna. There, they learn that the Winglies had put a seal on the Divine Dragon, but that seal had been broken somehow, and to defeat it they would need the Dragon Buster and the Dragon Block Staff.
Meanwhile, Shana wanders into a certain room in the palace; the room that contained a Signet Sphere. After snapping out of her trance, she faints and Dart carries her to the guest room. It is there that her Dragoon Spirit leaves her and chooses Miranda as its next bearer.
At this point, Meru returns to the group and tells them to follow her. She leads everyone to the Evergreen Forest, and reveals a secret passage. Inside is a small town of Winglies. Meru then reveals herself to be a Wingly. The other Winglies are unhappy that Humans are in their city, but Meru tells them that their leader, Ancestor Blano, wishes to speak with them.
Ancestor Blano wishes to help the group defeat the Divine Dragon, so he leads them to the Royal Capital of Kadessa in the Forbidden Land. He tells them that they will find the Dragon Block Staff in the ruins of the city. Within the ruins, they encounter a Virage, but this time it is a stronger kind of monster. After defeating it, the group finds the Dragon Block Staff, but unfortunately it is being guarded by the strong enemy known as the Grand Jewel. The party fights and destroys the Grand Jewel, then grabs the Dragon Block Staff.
After returning to the Wingly City, Ancestor Blano informs them that the city of Deningrad is being attacked yet again by the Divine Dragon. Quickly, and with the help of Guaraha, Meru's fiancé, and her parents, they return to Deningrad to find it already in ruins. Devastated, they rush to the castle, where they find Shana and Queen Theresa safe and sound. Dart decides they must find and defeat the Divine Dragon once and for all, now that they have the Dragon Block Staff. The group heads to the Mountain of Mortal Dragon.
At the peak of the mountain, Dart and friends discover Lloyd using the Dragon Buster, attempting to fight the Divine Dragon. Lloyd explains that he had set the Dragon free, hoping to control it, but was unable to tame the beast and was now trying to kill it. The heroes bravely fight the fierce Dragon Lord, and manage to defeat it after a difficult, long battle. Just as the Dragon breathes its last, Lloyd jumps in and swipes the Divine Dragon's eye, claiming it as the Divine Dragoon Spirit. Enraged, Dart and Rose chase after Lloyd, but Lloyd attacks them and blasts them off a cliff. Dart realizes that Lloyd is one of the Winglies as he disappears. Miranda tells the group that Lloyd is probably after the third Moon Object, the Moon Mirror, and they all rush to Deningrad to protect Queen Theresa.
In Deningrad, it is too late, as Lloyd has already captured Queen Theresa. They learn that Lloyd has probably taken the Queen to Flanvel Tower, in Kashua Glacier, to obtain the Moon Mirror. Once at the glacier, Miranda reveals to the party that the Queen adopted her when she was a child, as her birth mother had abandoned her. As they travel through the cold terrain, a terrifying beast named Windigo ambushes the party. After the monster is defeated, they all reach Fort Flanvel, a former Wingly fortress, and navigate their way to where Lloyd is.
Lloyd challenges the party, using his powerful Wingly magic and swift attacks. However, the heroes are able to weaken him, and Dart goes in to deliver the final blow. Wink, one of the Sacred Sisters, jumps out in front of Lloyd and takes Dart's strike, injuring herself. She says that Lloyd had saved her a number of times before, and that she would do the same for him. After the ordeal, Wink relays to the party that Emperor Diaz, Lloyd's superior, has kidnapped Shana and is demanding the Divine Moon Objects for her ransom. Lloyd asks Dart to end his life, but Dart refuses and asks Lloyd to join them to go to Vellweb.
On the way to Vellweb, the party passes by Fort Magrad, a place that seems important to Rose. There, the party takes a break as a blizzard passes over. Lloyd lets everyone know that he and Diaz desire to create a new utopia using the Divine Moon Objects to regenerate the world. He explains that Soa's plan is to bring about the birth of the 108th god-like species to populate the new utopia.
When the blizzard ends, the journey continues. Rose tells the group that Fort Magrad used to be a Human stronghold, and that it was the place where Emperor Diaz, the leader of the Humans during the Dragon Campaign, declared war on the Winglies. They all come across an ancient tomb, and Rose is the only one who is able to read it properly. However, as they turn to leave, the spirits of the Human soldiers who died during the war came back to life and attack. The party fights the poltergeist and defeats it. They continue on their way to Vellweb.
In the Human capital city of Vellweb, the spirit of Shirley greets the heroes. She tells them that the spirits of the previous Dragoons still wander in the great towers, and that they refuse to be at rest. She tells them to return when they are ready to help the spirits rest in peace. After traveling for some time, everyone reached the throne room where Emperor Diaz waited for them. He reveals that he wants to destroy the entire world in order to create a utopia. Enraged, Lloyd realizes that he was being used as a pawn to obtain the Moon Objects while Diaz was plotting to destroy the world. He tries to strike at Diaz, but is attacked first and disappears.
Emperor Diaz reveals himself to be Zieg Feld, Dart's father and Rose's former fiancé. He describes the creation of the Divine Tree, the reasons behind the Dragon Campaign and the significance of the Signets and the Divine Moon Objects. He then tells the story of how he fought with Melbu Frahma, the evil Wingly dictator, during the Dragon Campaign and was placed under a petrification spell that lasted 11,000 years. After the spell wore off, he had lived a normal life in Neet marrying Clare, Haschel's daughter thinking Rose was dead. Zieg then says that Rose is the Black Monster; the eternal demon whose fate is to kill the Moon Child every 108 years. Finally, he leaves them with the truth that Shana is the Moon Child; the embodiment of the omnipotent Virage Embryo. Dart was shocked at these revelations, and demanded that Shana be returned to him. After declaring that he will end the world as Soa wishes, Zieg disappears with Shana and leaves Rose and Dart behind.
[edit] Chapter 4 - Moon and Fate
The party finds themselves in the Death Frontier, a perilous desert with many sand traps and enemies. They headed to the Wingly city of Ulara, where they hoped to find some way to stop Zieg. In the desert, Rose despairs and wishes to continue her journey alone. Miranda is angry at Rose and insists that everyone should work together. After Miranda slaps Rose, the two stop fighting with Albert's help and continue on their way. Rose explains that the choker she wears enables her to live eternally and to enter the Wingly city. Soon they reach Ulara, the Spring Breath Town, and meet up with Caron and Miata, friends of Rose's. They lead the party to Charle, who created the Signet Spheres, the last protection against the Moon that Never Sets.
Charle, who is Melbu Frahma's sister, explains the motives behind Rose, the Black Monster, and gives the team directions on where to go and what to do next. She tells them that they all must travel to the last remaining Spheres which are in the Death City of Mayfill, the Law City of Zenebatos and the Magical City of Aglis. Charle suggests starting out in Rouge, Haschel's home town.
That night, Rose and Dart practice their swordfighting together in the Death Frontier. Rose tells Dart to kill her because she believes Dart can take care of himself. Dart refuses and says that she is no longer the Black Monster, but a "companion who is on the same road". They return to the city and have a drink in the bar.
The next morning, Dart, Miranda, Haschel, Meru, Kongol, Albert and Rose all prepare to teleport back to Tiberoa. They end up in the Home of the Gigantos and travel back to Fletz in order to sail to Rouge on the Queen Fury. Once they arrive at the village, Dart asks around and learn that the residents are concerned about a "stick" coming out of the water in the distance. Rose let the group know that the "stick" was actually a tower and there they could find the Magical City of Aglis. She told a brief history of all three cities. Then all of a sudden, the sea "split" and created a path to the city.
Once inside Aglis, the party meets up with an odd creature named Ruff. Ruff relayed a message: “Welcome to the seven heroes fated to be here. And Rose, these thousands of years I have waited were neither as long as eternity nor as short as a mere twinkle of a star. People who confront their fate with courage….” and forgot the rest. A creature named Spino appeared and relayed a message from Savan: “Zenebatos, which governs the rightful law, has lost its reason, and Mayfil, which governs over noble death, has been toyed with by devils from the infernal world. This city is no exception. My magic power is deteriorating and cannot prevent the invasion by monsters anymore. The only saving grace is my…. This city’s objective is about to be completed. You are the key. I have been waiting for you for thousands of years. Come, before he comes.”
Exploring further into the city, Dart and friends meet up with the Wingly scientist Savan and five more creatures: Lulu, Spino, Decal, Buckle and Phewy. He assured them that the Signet was protected by Last Kraken. Savan explained that in order to stop Zieg they needed the Psychedelic Bomb and Moot. To create the Psychedelic Bomb, Savan instructed them all to donate their courage, which was accomplished by entering a special chamber and answering a question by a hologram of a loved one. When the bomb was finished, Savan gave it to Dart.
They all went to check on the Signet Sphere, but Zieg approached them from behind. He caused Last Kraken to go berserk and attack the heroes. After finishing it off, the Signet Sphere and Moot were destroyed and Savan teleported them out of the chamber before it could be destroyed. Decal opened the way to the Law City and out of Aglis for the party with its last power and sent the heroes out. Their next destination was Zenebatos.
At Zenebatos, a flying creature named Coolon greeted them and assured them that he could take them out of the city if they needed. Continuing on, Dart and friends discovered that travelling around the Law City was tough; they needed to revise laws and have them carried out in order to get to the signet sphere. Soon they found themselves in a jail cell, but Kongol, who was too heavy to be abducted by the tiny robots, broke down the cell walls and allowed the rest of the party to escape. Reaching the Great Court of the Signet Sphere, the group was stopped by Kubila, Vector, and Selebus, three executioners who deemed them guilty of treason to Soa. After defeating them, Dart rushed to the room where the Sphere was being held, but Zieg had already destroyed it. Determined, they all headed to the final Signet Sphere in the Death City.
In Mayfill, Rose explained that the souls of the dead were lurking around here since there was no one to determine their destinations anymore. The party encountered the souls of Feyrbrand, the Divine Dragon and Regole, and put them to rest by defeating them once again. While journeying through the Death City, the group met up with a very familiar soul- Lavitz. But something was wrong with him, and the soul attacked them. They soon discovered that Lavitz was being controlled by a malicious demon named Zackwell, so after getting Lavitz to recognize Dart, the team was able to defeat Zackwell. Once Lavitz was freed, he gained strength from seeing his friends again one last time, and used his power to open a path to the Signet Sphere. Hurrying to the chamber, the group found the Sphere to be untouched, but Zieg quickly appears and destroys it.
Enraged, Dart lunges at Zieg using his Dragoon powers, but Zeig dodges the attack and quickly leaves. Rose sees that the Moon that Never Sets is falling from the sky, and the team exit the city and summon Coolon to fly up to the Moon. On the way, thousands of Virage appear and attack the flying creature, but with skillful maneuvering is able to crash land on the Divine Tree. Once on the Tree, Dart and Rose discover a stream that takes them up closer to the Moon. They encounter a strange insect that engages the party in battle. Defeating it, everyone reaches the Moon and enters a portal.
They end up in a forest. Miranda recognizes it as the forest she grew up in. Running off, Miranda encounters a flashback and fights a rose that speaks like her mother who abandoned her. After the battle she returns to the group. Next, the group ends up in a Serdian building with people in it. Haschel spots a woman who looks like Claire and runs off to find her. Discovering that she is possessed by a War God, Haschel is able to talk his daughter out of attacking him. Later, Dart and friends enter a cloud-like place. Continuting on, they are confronted with a dragon that Rose recognizes. To hide, the party splits up and jumps into two separate portals.
Albert, Kongol, Haschel, Miranda and Meru end up in the Home of the Gigantos. They witness a flashback that describes how Kongol was rescued by Doel. Kongol enters the chamber alone and meets his older brother Indora. Indora challenges Kongol and is defeated, yielding up the Golden Dragoon Spirit and his prized axe to Kongol.
Rose and Dart continue to search for the dragon, which is Rose's vassal dragon, Michael. She explains that in order to obtain her Dark Dragoon Spirit she had to kill Michael's mother, but she took it upon herself to raise the baby dragon left behind. When they find Michael, the dragon immediately attacks them due to its pride as the second strongest dragon. After killing Michael, Dart and Rose return to the Serdian inn and meet up with the rest of the party. Now reunited, Albert feels drawn to Emperor Doel's castle. Once there, Doel wishes to speak with Albert about why he killed Carlos. He explains that he believed that Carlos was an incompetent leader and challenges his nephew. After defeating Doel, Albert teaches Doel that supreme power is not the right way to rule a country and Doel disappears.
Continuing on, the party comes to a Wingly palace. Meru runs ahead but the bridge behind her disappears, leaving her alone. She enters and finds The Archangel, a Wingly deity. The Archangel accuses her of siding with humans and attacks her. Meru manages to defeat the deity and explains that Humans and Winglies are alike. Dart and the rest of the party catch up to Meru and continue on.
Next, they come to a strange and unearthly world. Dart hears Shana's voice, but soon the group is confronted by a Super Virage. After a tough fight, the Virage is defeated and Dart wonders if it was Shana. Later on, they catch up to Zieg, who is able to use the Red-Eye Dragoon Spirit. Dart chooses to fight him alone, and is almost overwhelmed by his father's power. After the fight, Zeig falls limp and the spirit of Melbu Frahma emerges from his body. Rose is confused, but Melbu Frahma explains that he transmigrated his soul into Zieg when he defeated him 11,000 years ago. At this point he takes Shana's body, which lies in a crystal, and merges with it to become the god of destruction. All of a sudden Lloyd appears and attempts to fight Melbu Frahma. However, Melbu Frahma pierces Lloyd in the heart and disables him.
Dying, Lloyd gives Dart the Divine Dragoon Spirit and the Dragon Buster, commissioning Dart and his friends to defeat Melbu Frahma and save the world. The party reassess what their goals are, and the final battle begins. It is a fierce, long and challenging battle, but the Dragoons Dart, Miranda, Albert, Rose, Haschel, Kongol and Meru are victorious. When Melbu Frahma is defeated, he attempts to make a last strike on the heroes, but they manage to escape. However, Rose and Zieg decide to stay behind and finish Melbu Frahma off for good with the Dragon Buster. Saddened by their choice, Dart continues on with Shana in tow and leaves the Moon as it explodes.
Some time later, everyone seems to be living a happy life. Kongol and Haschel train at the Rogue school. Albert marries his sweetheart Princess Emille. Meru introduces Guaraha to some humans and he is thrilled. Miranda is back at home with her Sacred Sisters and Queen Theresa. Dart and Shana remember their friend Lavitz, and help rebuild Seles, their hometown.
