Darren Purse (born 14 February 1977 in Stepney, London) is a professional football player currently playing for Cardiff City.

[edit] Career

Purse began his career at his local club, Leyton Orient in 1993 and continued at the side until he moved to Oxford United in 1996. He joined Birmingham City in 1997 and his spell included an appearance at the 2001 League Cup final as well as promotion to the FA Premier League. During the League Cup final, Purse scored a 90th minute equalizer in the 2001 League Cup from the penalty spot to take the game to extra time. Birmingham eventually lost on penalties.

During the 2003-2004 season, Purse moved to West Bromwich Albion and secured promotion to the Premier League once more.

In July 2005, Purse moved to Cardiff where he was named team captain. He has gained a fantastic reputation for his constant hard work and consistency as the Rock of the Cardiff defence, forming an effective partnership with Glenn Loovens.

Purse is a former England under-21 international.
