Darren (Paul) Johnson (born 1966) is a UK Green politician, and member of the London Assembly and Lewisham Council.

Johnson currently chairs the London Assembly's Environment Committee and Lewisham Council's Sustainable Development Select Committee. He is also leader of the six-strong Green group on Lewisham's borough council, vice president of the Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association and a member of the advisory board to Envirowork Lewisham (which provides training to the unemployed within open space community projects).

He lives in Brockley with his long-term partner and fellow borough councillor, Dean Walton, who works as a tax inspector.

Darren Johnson joined the Green Party in 1987 at the age of 20 [1]. In 1994 [2], he graduated from Goldsmiths College, University of London, with a first-class degree in politics and economics [3]. He was one of the principal speakers for the Green Party of England and Wales in 2002 [4] and their candidate for Mayor of London in 2000 and 2004.

In May 2000, he was elected to the London Assembly, to which he was re-elected in 2004.

In May 2002, he was elected as a councillor representing Brockley ward in the London Borough of Lewisham and was re-elected in 2006, when the Green Party gained a further five seats on Lewisham Council. In the 2005 general election, Johnson, who was backed by the Fire Brigade Union (after being the only AM to vote against cuts in the brigade), received 11.5% of the vote as the parliamentary candidate for Lewisham Deptford.

Until 2005, Johnson chaired Proud Heritage—a project to promote understanding of the history of the LGBT community through museums, libraries and the Internet.
