Darrell Dickey
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Darrell Dickey was the head coach of the North Texas Mean Green football team from 1998 to 2006. After building a team with an established defense, he coached the Mean Green to 4 straight Sun Belt championships from 2001 to 2004, establishing North Texas as one of the elite programs in the Sun Belt. However, that success, was followed by failure, because in 2005 and 2006, UNT won a total of 5 games. Because of two consecutive losing seasons, he was fired and replaced by Todd Dodge.[citation needed]
He is known for his running attacks, having produced great players such as Jamario Thomas and Patrick Cobbs. He has brought his offensive credentials to many places including Memphis, from 1986 to 1989, Mississippi State in 1990, LSU from 1991 to 1993, UTEP from 1994 to 1996, and SMU in 1997.
He is the son of a former Kansas State Wildcat football coach. From 1979 to 1982, he was the starting quarterback for the Wildcats.
