Darlington, Wisconsin

Darlington is a city in Lafayette County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 2,418 at the 2000 census. The city is located within the Town of Darlington.
In 2004, Darlington was featured in an episode of the A&E show City Confidential. The episode focused on former Lafayette County Judge Daniel McDonald, who had murdered James Klein by stabbing him multiple times. Klein was the assistant of Bill Johnston, who had unseated McDonald after two terms as judge.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 2,418 people, 985 households, and 639 families residing in the city. The population density was 712.7/km² (1,852.8/mi²). There were 1,052 housing units at an average density of 310.1/km² (806.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.13% White, 0.04% Black or African American, 0.04% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.29% from two or more races. 1.12% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 985 households out of which 31.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 11.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% were non-families. 32.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.96.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 22.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 86.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $34,539, and the median income for a family was $44,048. Males had a median income of $30,238 versus $22,033 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,403. About 5.9% of families and 9.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.8% of those under age 18 and 10.5% of those age 65 or over.

- Darlington's school mascot is the Redbird
- Darlington is one of the 92 areas to be on the List of F5 tornadoes in the U.S., since 1880. The tornado occurred in May of 1893 and caused three fatalities.
- Darlington was the home of Sylvan Muldoon, author of Projection of the Astral Body, among other works, at the time of his death in October, 1969.
