Dark compact
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The idea of a dark compact springs from literature, particularly of the horror fiction and fantasy genres. Dark compacts are colloquially known as "deals with the devil". Such deals almost invariably involve extremely strict interpretation of rules and manipulation of language by the devil figure.
Common plot lines might include:
- Devastating consequences for the non-devil figure, or
- Comical consequences for him (it is usually a man), or
- His attempts to "cheat" the devil figure.
