Darby Mine No. 1 explosion

The Darby Mine No. 1 Explosion was a coal mine explosion on May 20, 2006 in Holmes Mill, Kentucky USA that killed five miners. One other miner was able to get out alive. The blast at the Darby Mine No. 1 occurred between midnight and 1 a.m. while a maintenance shift was on duty, said Amy Louviere, a spokeswoman for the Mine Safety and Health Administration. [1]
