DARKSTAR Linux is a Linux distribution, conceived as a user friendly desktop mainly for those who do not have prior Linux OS experience. To this end, it's key goals are ease of install, configuration, and use. It offers a friendly gaming and multimedia oriented environment.

DARKSTAR Linux is completely Open Source and Free Software, which allows it to be redistributed freely in its original or modified form. This operating system is a Slackware-based Linux distribution founded by a few Romanian Linux enthusiasts.

DARKSTAR Linux is in alpha development stage because some applications are not entirely tested and some of the facilities to be implemented are not present.

DARKSTAR Linux has a desktop and a server branch.

The desktop branch, DARKSTAR Linux Home Edition (codename Gabrielle) is the main branch, fully featured for a desktop usage.

The server branch, DARKSTAR Linux Server Edition (codename Jurassic) is the gui-less version of the operating system, especially conceived for a server usage.
